Just thought I'd relay an article about the Mythbusters called:
Mythbusters 'Big Bang' Shatters Windows (http://www.kcra.com/cnn-news/19016582/detail.html)
KCRA.com
Apparently they ignited 500 pounds of ammonium nitrate to "knock the socks off" a mannequin.
I'm not sure I believe that Yolo County, California resident, Sherril Stephens, was knocked of her couch, from the force of the explosion, though. Maybe she fell off the couch because she was startled...
I'd like to see the episode when it airs.

Yeah, I can't wait to see this one. A potential "best explosion ever", perhaps?

The one when the blew the cement truck to bits was pretty impressive...

"Sergeant, sound the alert! We're under attack!"
"Naw, Lieutenant, it's just Jamie and Adam...'

Sure, it's fun to blow stuff up (and see it done) but I'm not crazy about the thought that they have to have a boom every episode.

I wouldn't be surprised even a small explosion creates a pretty big force and considering the fact that these explosions actually shattered windows.

Man, I would totally be stoked if my front window was broken and replaced the same day by the Mythbusters. I'll bet they'd even sign it if I asked nicely. That would be so cool!
Edited to add: I realize that Adam & Jamie probably did not do the window-replacing. Still, I'll bet they'd do it. Man, that would be neat!

If they broke MY window (and living in Sacramento it is not beyond the realm of possibility) I would demand that Kari do the replacing.

I'd prefer Grant (Tory strikes me as kinda dumb).

I wonder if Kari was even around seeing as how she is pregnant?
Why was this up in Yolo? They used to do the big booms, like the cement truck and the parachute explosion thing, at the nearby Carson Hill mine.

I bet Adam will have a good story about that at TAM...

I think that they all play the roles expected of them, and Tory is the "curious jock" sort of character. Given the advanced skill-sets required to work for Jamie, I doubt that anyone even "kinda dumb" would even be allowed to intern.

OK, Tory might actually have a functioning brain, but the jock type never did appeal to me. I'll take the super-brainy types, thanks. (And yes, Bob is quite intelligent. He's just a genetic smart-ass. A lot of men in his family are like that.)

I guess that they do so many explosions, they are bound to make such a mistake sooner or later. I would have thought it would have blown a bit more than just the socks off the mannequin.

Is this some sort of "inverse neutron bomb"? Destroys socks, but leaves people intact...? :D
Yeeeeees, I know, the ideas HAS been done before...

Am I the only one thinking that the fact they are testing the "blows your socks off" myth shows they are really running out of ideas at this point? No offense to them, there is only so much you can do. I'm reminded of "shooting fish in a barrel" here. More and more often I find myself going "why are they even bothering with this?"

I suggest it is a bit of a cover up for what the myth really is. The way to blow someone's socks off is with an idea not explosives.
Or is that too much of an explosive idea that will blow your socks off?

They've been doing mostly suggested myths for a few seasons now. If that is so horrible I guess they could just go off the air. Would that be preferable?

No, of course not. But I do wonder how long the show can really last.

I bet you 9/11 would provide a season of material to bust myths. JFK could probably be a few shows.
I'd like to see them try to make an atomic or nuclear bomb out of smoke detectors.

As far as I'm concerned, they could have went off the air after the episode demonstrating the fastest way to chill beer. Practical advise that they have never topped. They became way too formulaic after the early seasons.

.
A major portion of their audience is kids.
The Mythbusters forum overflows with messages from children who know little about much of anything.
And some amazingly dense adults.

Someone at that network seems to have gotten carried away with the idea that more destruction is what viewers want. Hence the show Smash Lab. Which I predict will educate the network that it is the clever, interesting, and educational elements that the audience wants, as Smash Lab falls from the ratings.
However, an occasional boom can, admittedly, be quite satisfying.

My big objection to Smash Lab was that the cast were pulling stupid stunts and major omissions that IMO called their professional competence into question. Factors were overlooked in their "experiments" that Bob and I thought of right away, but these alleged professionals did not. Add to that prioritizing showing off as much of the one female cast member's skin as possible over her having proper safety gear in play and her just plain idiocy (such as sticking one hand into salt water that had electric current going through it and grabbing a metal table with her other hand. This from an alleged engineer), and Smash Lab came across as the dumbed-down LCD version of Mythbusters.

Oh god yes, Smash Labs was (is?) horrible. Next to no theoretical skill to refine experiments, declaring horribly flawed and failed experiments "successes", fauxhawks, ridiculous or redundant safety ideas, etc. etc.
Mythbusters is indeed getting a bit stale, which is sad. I'd love it if they'd bring back a couple old shows--Junkyard Wars (two teams are put into a junkyard and have to scavenge to create various workable vehicles/devices) and Battlebots/Robot Wars (Grant was a contestant in one, and imo they were a great blend of science and entertainment.)

Network executive thinking since forever: "What makes this show good is Scooby Doo! We need more Scooby Doo somehow!"
...we get Scrappy Doo, show sucks.
"What makes Mythbusters good is explosions! We need more explosions! Let's make a whole show about them!"
...Smashlab was so obviously this type of braindead decision-making.
Problem I have with Mythbusters is all the padding. It should be a half-hour show.
