I am assuming you are all viewing the latest Shirley Temple backed ad for Sony. Apart from wondering about all the poor people being crushed to death under the human pyramid, it reminded me of watching Shirley Temple films back in the Good Ol Days.

I can recall one where she was in a talent quest on the radio, but due to an extremely unfortunate coincidence, they thought a different girl was her singing. So she missed out on all the fame and bright lights and instant wealth.

Fortunately, due to another plot device, they managed to find her again before the film finished and she got all the fame and riches after all.

In real life, she quite the film industry and chose a different career when she was older. I don't know if that was because she couldn't act, or because she had been hopelessly type cast. She became an ambassador, IIRC. As a kid, she could hold the camera like a pro.

There are two that tie for my favorite: The Little Princess and the Little Colonel. The reason is not so much for Temple but for the supporting cast. I love Arthur Treacher!

I remember hearing an interview with her about 25 years ago. She quit the film business because, quite simply, she hated it and always had. She wouldn't even let her child perform in a school play, so dead set she was against children in theater.

I also like the Little Colonel, but my favorite (hold on to your hamstrings) was Heidi.

Don't ask me to explain, and I'll deny it in court, but I liked it anyway.

Oh, hush up and leave me alone.

P.S. She grew into an intelligent woman and a good ambassador to both Ghana and Czechoslovakia as well as US Representative to the UN.

Every Sunday after church we would stop and get donuts and then pig out in front of the tv watching "Shirley Temple Theatre"

My favorite! How to choose....

I liked the Chinese one (which was that???) because I liked the dog, and she spoke REAL Chinese!

Plus, it took place on a boat, and I always thought for years that what a cruise would be like....

She also, very early on, talked about her mastectomy. She certainly seems to be a class act. I wonder how some of our current stars will age.

My favourites would have to be Little Miss Marker and The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer with Cary Grant. The latter was made when she was about 16 years old. It's cute romantic comedy.
