Besides just having the word "alternative" how does these two topics relate at all?

Alternative Architecture. Those Architects with their blueprints, years of education and support beams, it's all so cold and allopathic. What the world needs is more buildings created out of natural vibrations and St. John's Wart. Clearly the mixture of concrete that is used to hold structures up has to many side effects. We need to dilute the mixture in water to the point where it just has the memory of strength.

Alternative Military. Hand to hand combat leaves the spiritual defenses down. What we need are battalions of healing guides meditating to victory while guarding the nations chakras.

Alternative baggage claim is a homoeopathic way to move your luggage.
Using the same quantum principles as alternative medicine.
Visualize yourself at your destination with your luggage.
.
Make sure you are relaxed and your mind is focused on your destination.
Through a quantum bridge our baggage handlers will receive your essential travel vibes.
Then simply leave your bags where they are and head to the airport.
You are done.
No need for baggage claim no hassle and your luggage will always be at your final destination.*
*Multi-City and one way Not included.

Alternative Fire departments. Because we all know "like cure like" simply set a burning house EVEN more on fire will surely stop any blaze from getting out of hand. They can also help get spirit guides down when stuck in trees.

Don't laugh. We interviewed a fellow a few years ago whose claim was that construction engineering and architecture was a 'total scam' and any structure would stand up provided you charged it up from time to time with your crystal.
Rather than St. John's Wort, he recommended bamboo as primary construction material for river-spanning bridges. Crystal-charged bamboo is stronger than steel, but doesn't rot in water, apparently.

Well that's all well and good until the dying body of Alec Guinness falls onto the plunger of a detonator, causing explosive charges to send your train into the water below. Then where will you be?

What about alternative car repair? Let the mechanic rub the car with herbs and pray over it to make it work. Let him look at every part of the car to see what's wrong with it, even though there is no established connection between the engine and the car seats. Maybe he'll fill it with 10 gallons of water and one drop of gasoline to make it run.

It's a legitimate phrase. Normaly uses in computeing contexts but Le Corbusier's machines for liveing in would have been considered alternative architecture when it first appeared.

They aren't politically correct.
One of the complaints made against medicine by alties is that it is "Western" and/or "patriarchal".

How about "alternative" dentistry? Instead of drilling, filling, extracting or bridging, just use aromatherapy or Therapeutic touch or...
Actually, the reason no one does this is that dental problems are not usually self-correcting, and after about 3 weeks the patient would go psycho and attack the practitioner for not helping with the pain. :)
