Why does this not surprise me:
PAKISTAN'S top Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud has reportedly claimed responsibility for the shootings at an US immigration services centre in New York state that killed 13 people.

How long is it before the CT'S start running with this nonsense.
I remember back to the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania and some of the stories that were being spread back then, including ones that claimed that the victims were shot by the police on the orders of the UN to bring about gun control in Australia.

CNN says it's a certain Wong who did it, Wong sounds more Chinese than Pakistani.

He's Vietnamese. The name is likely an alias.

It's going to be hard to buy into that.
Seriously, is the taliban really suggesting that they wasted resources so they can kill...not even 20 people?
That's like trying to hijack a JetBlue plane.

If the report is true, then it represents an interesting tactic. It's a cheap way of spreading paranoia and a great way to increase the apparent power of the organization without expending any more resources than are needed to create a press release.
Back in the 70's some terrorist groups actually tried to claim responsibility for the Ermenonville DC-10 crash (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Airlines_Flight_981).

It should take no longer than 20 minutes for the CT crowd to glom onto this.
Unfortunately.

Well...that didn't take long.

There's already a thread on this event (including this line of derail) in Current Events. This is the same Taliban jackass who claimed that he was behind Virginia Tech, if I'm not mistaken.
Seems some sort of power grab. No one takes him seriously, but the idiots who follow him will believe in him more fervidly.
