Kim Jong Il Observes Launch of Satellite Kwangmyongsong-2

Pyongyang, April 5 (KCNA) -- General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited the General Satellite Control and Command Centre to watch the process of launching the experimental communications satellite Kwangmyongsong-2 on Sunday.
He acquainted himself with the preparations made for the satellite launch.

After being briefed on the satellite launch, he observed the whole process of the satellite launch at the centre.

At 11:20 a.m. the satellite Kwangmyongsong-2, a shining product of self-reliance, soared into space by carrier rocket Unha-2. It was smoothly and accurately put into its orbit 9 minutes and 2 seconds after being completely separated from the carrier rocket.

Expressing great satisfaction over the fact that scientists and technicians of the DPRK successfully launched the satellite with their own wisdom and technology, he highly appreciated their feats and extended thanks to them.

It is a striking demonstration of the might of our Juche-oriented science and technology that our scientists and technicians developed both the multistage carrier rocket and the satellite with their own wisdom and technology 100 percent and accurately put the satellite into orbit at one go, he noted, repeatedly praising the patriotic devotion of the scientists and technicians who are playing a vanguard role in the drive to open the gate to a great prosperous and powerful nation.

Stressing the need to bring about a new turn in conquering outer space and making a peaceful use of it on the basis of the successful launch of the satellite Kwangmyongsong-2, he set forth the important tasks to be fulfilled to do so.

He met with the scientists and technicians who have contributed to the satellite launch by devoting all their wisdom and enthusiasm with ardent patriotism and warmly encouraged them before having a photograph taken with them.

He was accompanied by Secretary Jon Pyong Ho and First Vice-Department Director Ju Kyu Chang of the WPK Central Committee.

What? Kim didn't build the rocket all by himself?

What? Kim didn't build the rocket all by himself?

Good pick up. Usually when Kim visits such facilities he is at pains to explain to the mere mortals present how things should be done better - Or so the newspaper reports

our Juche-oriented science and technology

???

Oh.

http://www.jucheeurope.com/juche_university/html/E-series-3.htmThe great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il said. "It(the Juche idea) explicated

the law that governs the domination, transformation and development of the world by man."

The world is dominated and transformed by man. This is done in accordance with certain principles and laws.

Only when man knows this, can he dominate and transform the world purposefully and consciously.Oh. :boggled:

What? Kim didn't build the rocket all by himself? His workers were probably divinely inspired by Him.

Oh, he's just modest. That, incidentally, is also why he appears to our eyes as a funny-looking small fat guy, instead of the awesome hunk of prime North-Korean manflesh that he really is.

That site is comedy gold; I've been reading some of their most recent stories, and particularly enjoyed the explanation that they lost their soccer match because the Omani referee was in cahoots with the South Koreans, and because they were sick, and some other stuff. I'll be sure to keep an eye on other developing news.

Yeah I have been reading the site for years. Aside for the poor English, the reporting of the deeds of our Kim are quiet amazing

Every time I read any of the propaganda put out by North Korea I can't help wondering if they've considered inviting Comical Ali (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Saeed_al-Sahhaf) to work for them.

I can understand why they direct propaganda at their own people, but do they seriously think anyone in any other country actually buys any of their crap? Why do they bother?

Am I right in thinking it is hosted on a Japanese domain/region/whatever the term is?

I had a flick around some of the stories:

This one for example (http://www.kcna.co.jp/item/2009/200901/news17/20090117-13ee.html)

All it is is a story about Kim visiting a 'people's recreation centre'.

But the writing style is brilliant!

Journalism from the point of view of a demi-god visiting places. Everything is decribed by Kim's reaction to or instruction regarding it.
Amazing.

He stressed the need to build more catering facilities to meet the increasing demand of visitors while raising the utility rate of the existing ones so that a greater number of people may visit the mountain to fully enjoy a bird's-eye view of its scenery and spend pleasant time in the future.

They've just built it! Yet Mister I-have-to-make-some-inane-comment-on-everything insists they build more canteen space for inaginary future people.

I am wondering if secretive eye-rolling and behind the back wanker-gestures are among the most popular pastimes in current North Korea?

I think the satellite Kwangmyongsong-2 may have an orbital altitude of 4000 feet below sea level. At least acording to the US Navy.

Also there is rumbling that it wasn't actually an attempted satellite launch but an attempt to further refine an intercontinental delivery vehicle. People point that the upper section should be bigger for a satellite. Of course Sputnik was only as big around as a basketball.

Wow, reading that Juche philosophy site is eye opening!

What a bunch of gibberish! People actually fall for this crap? Or is it not actually accepted in NK? Does anyone know?

For the record I could see people accepting pretty much anything after what I've seen at Amway rallies.

How can you suggest such things when he is the great statesman of general-type who has performed immortal feats to shine forever in history by leading the Party and the army, the state and the people for several decades with his extraordinary qualification and personality and distinguished political caliber as an illustrious commander born of Heaven?

North Koreans swallow it hook line and sinker. They have no other source of information. And a fair percentage of the population is now second generation to this type of brainwashing.

I often worry if the government ever collapsed, how would the rest of the world deal with having to rehabiliate an entire nation

You can all relax now. It's going to be allright. Dear Leader is reappointed as the head of the National Defense Comission (http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/asiapcf/04/09/nkorea.kim.reappointed/index.html), so it's all going to be OK. Isn't that a relief?

I don't know. They certainly act as if they swallow it, but whether that means they actually do or simply see that they have no choice is a difficult question. I wouldn't be suprised if the majority simply don't give a damn and are far more interested in getting enough food.

If anyone is interested about North Koreans, I recommend reading the graphic novel Pyongyang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyongyang_(comic)), written by a Quebecois, Guy Delisle. He worked in Pyongyang for awhile and writes about his experiences with the people.

That's just so sad.

Oh wait! It is actually really funny!

But it's also really sad.

But then it's also really, really funny!

I'm torn about this, as you may notice.

ETA: Kim where did you find that delightful copywriter?

I would submit that they do actually swallow it. I've seen a video of the funeral for Kim Il-Sung, and everybody in the immense crowd, including the reporter on television, were bawling. I've never seen anything like it.

ETA: Actually, let me qualify this. I think the urban peoples swallow it, and they are the only ones you would ever see. The country people likely just care about surviving on a day to day basis.

Indeed. That is what we in the trade refer to as "hydrosynchronous orbit".

Here's something I found amusing:

A recent report in North Korea's communist party newspaper said Mr Kim was "choked with sobs" that the money spent on the launch could not be used for the people's basic needs - but added that they would understand.
