Attn. Edmonton Skeptics.
We got leafleted today at my store in Calgary for a meeting in Edmonton on May 2/09. "Edmonton Questions 9/11" is the title and the speakers are Barrie Zwicker (journalist and author) and Robert Balsamo (Pilots for 9/11 Truth) at The Earth General Store @ 10832 Whyte Ave. (above Gordon Price Music.)
Now, I would never suggest actually paying the $18/$20 admission price for this silliness, however, some good old fashioned Trotsky-style counter leafleting might be in order.
How about drumming up some talking points and counter arguments for any Edmonton Skeptics who'd like to go and fight the good fight on May 2? You'd be doing us all a big solid.
At the risk of getting sentimental I felt attacked on 9/11/01 despite being Canadian. These zealots decided to murder Americans, our long time friends and comrades. I feel it is a scandal and I am personally embarassed that this BS has made it this far north.

Good show! Don't let these frauds spread there lies uncontested.
That Balsamo is a hothead, hopefully he'll get himself arrested.

Watch out for Captain Bob. He may use his secret tape recorder to record any conversations you have with him, and he may try to get your personal info from you.

Do the RCMP use tasers? Hearing Cap'n Bob shriek "DON'T TASE ME, EH!!!!" is something I'd pay to see.

They recently killed a man in an airport with one, so while they still are still part of the force, I am not sure if they are using them presently (my be under review).

$18/$20 admission? My, the twoof is certainly getting expensive. Does the leaflet say anything about where the money is going?

I'm starting to think the whole 9/11 truth movement is just a way for some con artists to make money off paranoid people. Just make up a bunch of crazy crap, make a dvd, and sell it. The paranoid people with snatch it up, as it confirms their delusions about the government secretly being "after" them.

$18/$20 admission? That includes a PFT barbecue apron, right? Does the PFT tee shirt now have pictures of all their enemy's on it? How about PFT branded pocket calculators to calculate G forces? how do they calculate collect and pay the Canadian tax up there? You cant just go over the border to Canada and sell junk and bring your cash back home. Right?:D

Sorry for letting the terrorists apologist Balsamo up north. Is Zwicker from Canada? Balsamo is dumber than a box of dirt as he uses delusional math and physics skills to make a mess of 911. He says he is a pilot but he says he and other pilots can't hit a building in the safety of a simulator; wonder how they find the runway to land on.
It is hard times these clowns are trying to make money selling false ideas on 911. One flyer should concentrate on the fact they are pushing delusions based on lies, hearsay and fantasy manufactured to make money and pounce on the gullible who like to entertain these thoughts. An alternative is these ideas are free for the google of it; go to the local library and look up 911 inside job, or any 911 issue and you can have what Balsamo and Zwicker are selling for free; save your money and go to a movie where the fiction is a higher quality.

In my experience the Troofers generally will not turn anybody away; they are looking for converts, after all. But actually attending the event (aside from leafleting prior to the event) is probably a waste of time; you'll sit through a couple hours of lectures before they throw it open for questions, and then they'll probably only let you ask one question or so.
I have not paid too much attention to Balsamo at SLC; about all I know about him is that he supports the CIT-heads.
Zwicker is Canadian, yes, from Toronto. He's a Zero-Day troofer; he knew it was an inside job on 9-11. He has a book out; I think it's called Towers of Deception.

I used to live across the back alley from that place and know the area well. They'd get more exposure if they made it a free event and held it two months later during bthe annual Fringe theatre festival.
A former roommate of mine is one of the organizers of this event.

My brother is very active in the local Skeptics community and has been a featured guest for a local Skeptics phone-in radio show.
I'll send this along to them.

24 Canadians were murdered on 9/11. One of whom was Garnett "Ace" Bailey, a former player for the Edmonton Oilers who shared ice time with Wayne Gretzky in his first season before Bailey himself retired.
For Edmontonians, short of losing an actual family member in the attacks, it doesn't get more personal than that.

I just got off the phone with my brother, the local skeptic community is already aware of this activity and are considering doing exactly what you describe.

It is my feeling that Canada was attacked too, along with the rest of the world. The actual event may have occurred in America, but rest assured it was an attack on civilized people everywhere. I hate terrorists, but I hate Truthers even more. Most of them don't even realize they're apologizing for the terrorists and they're also too blinkin stupid to realize that the average jihadi would separate a truther's head from his neck if he had the chance. He might disagree that 9/11 was an inside job just before the knife plunges in.

A recent inspection here in Quebec showed a number of the tasers in use by our police to be defective and they’ve been ordered to discontinue their use for the time being.
CBC News — Quebec orders police to turn in Tasers (http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/2009/03/27/mtl-quebec-taser-recall-0327.html)
Personally, I think it’s disgusting that especially after the airport scandal, our police are allowed to carry these things, considering that under federal law they’re classified as prohibited weapons.

I have a cousin who has been tased by Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers.
It was a part of his own training at the RCMP Academy. During his training, he also scored at the top if his class at the pistol range, thus allowing him the honor of wearing the coveted crossed pistols on his uniform.
My cousin is somewhere out on Canadas streets doing his job to protect Canadian citizens. I have as much confidence in my cousins skills as do his instructors and I know, that if some loon were to take a run at my cousin with a knife, and all he has is his Sig-Sauer .40, that assailant is going die.
This hypothetical knife wielding assailant has a far better chance if my cousin, or any other law enforcement has non-lethal options available to him.

If nonlethal defence tools were legalized it would be an absolute nonissue.

<furtherofftopicstill>
The term “nonlethal” is falling out of favour. “Less lethal” is more accurate.
