Not sure if this has been posted and talked about already or not. Pretty interesting oven made from cardboard and a couple other things and costs $5 to make.

I find it sad that this idea and similar design has been around since the 70's but was never put into mass use despite it being very useful, especially in third world countries. Reinforced my belief that all the technology in the world can't make us use it wisely.

My sister made and uses one of these to bake bread (probably not regularly, and it's probably more of a quick-bread), but she said it works extremely well. It's a slightly different design, but there are some good ones out there.

I can't find the link, but there is a site where people can buy ovens and have them donated to 3rd world countries.

Tons of fantastic links and info on this site:

good article about Darfur solar ovens: http://edition.cnn.com/2007/TECH/09/12/solar.darfur/

I need to see if I have an old piece of glass the right size, but I have cardboard and black spray paint and packing material... Won't be a tragedy if I have to go to the hardware store for a bit of Plexiglass.

Only bummer is no sun at all here today, so I guess the project will wait a few days.
