I have been doing some research on McLean's triune brain theory - that the brain evolved upwards, or developed around more primitive areas - the 'reptilian', the limbic and the neo-cortex.

It seems that the theory has been accepted mainly by the psychological fraternity rather than the scientific. Has there been any scientific support or evidence for this theory?

If someone could point out some references or sources, I would greatly appreicate it.

I would say that the brain is more like a democratic nation than anything. Yes we have the 'lower' areas (geography not moral) but they are integrated with the 'higher' areas. they interpenetrate and communicate with each other.

One area does more of the autonomic functions, another regulate arousal and emotions, and so on, but they are not that seperate, they all communicate and effect each other. The cortex is even worse with some very specific araes and some very non-specific areas.
