What a strange thing that happened today! We (my wife and mother-in-lawand I)were packing up to come home from the cottage when the Jehoves showed up. Well my m-i-l literally jumped out of her chair (which was remarkable in itself as she is 83) and ran and hid in the kitchen, away from the front door.

After the two young women left my m-i-l came back to the living room and went back to her book. I asked her what the hell was wrong and she said she was afraid of them, didn't like them and didn't want to get into an argument with them. I said that it was my job to get rid of them and she would not have to deal with them. She said that they have been known to force their way into the house and she didn't want to be confronted. Even though I told her that no one gets into my home without my invite she still was very uneasy about the whole thing and refused to talk about it further.

Both the wife and her mother are Catholics, my wife is no stranger to the Jehoves but I was really taken aback by her mother's reaction.

Ever heard of anything so strange?

Indoctrination, perhaps? One cult just as frightened of another?

I've never heard of JW's breaking into someone's house.

Only zombie JWs do that.

I thought they were all zombies to begin with.

Interesting. I don't know of JW's are different in other parts of the country, but here in California, all I have to say is "I'm Catholic" and they instantly smile, say thank you and leave. (Of course I don't mention that "lapsed" would be a generous way of describing my views- atheistic/agnostic would be more accurate 13 years of parochial school'll do that for ya - LOL) Even the Mormons turn away when I say that, though they are more inclined to want to leave "some literature" for me, which I decline. But breaking/forcing their way in? Never heard of anything like that.
