Hehe- it's always been my thought that the worst part about being an atheist is that I couldn't say "Nyah, Nyah, told ya so!"

But it works the other way too. And with Republicans vs. Democrats, etc. etc...

i believe that SOME religious people do want and do that just as SOME athiests want to see religious people fail so they can rub in the 'I told you so' salt.
Has to do with ego rather then religion or non religion.

Maybe so, but you won't ever hear any atheist claim that atheism is the source of all morality and goodness.

That may be true ( I do not know all atheist or what the say or believe and believe you also do not so you can not say never) but was not the point of the thread/topic.

When someone sets up a stereotype like that, all it takes is one example to prove them right.

I do not wish for the religious to fail. It would please me if they came to their senses and grew up but I would never rub it in. I would be there to give supportive answers if I could.
When I say I feel that religious people would like me to fail I mean things like losing a loved one, getting cancer, that sort of thing. The people I know think that if I were in enough emotional termoil that I would see their god and join up.

Wow. Maybe the folks you know think your life has been too easy and that this gives you the luxury to dismiss the notion of God. If that's the case, I'd be willing to bet that they're wrong. I find it difficult to believe, however, that they actually wish to see you lose a loved one or contract cancer. Maybe they're just trying to make sense of the fact that you don't believe in something that's so obviously real to them. They point to your perceived level of comfort as a possible explanation? Maybe I'm naive.

It probably isn't as blatant as I make it out to be but there is still an uneasy fealing that it lurks just below the surface.
The Muslims of the world are under attack because of the extremists among them. They get the OK from the Koran to do the things they do. Not far off are the Christian extremists that would use the bible as justification for all sorts of things. It wouldn't take overt acts by the everyday ordinary Christian, only their willingness to stand idly by and allow such things to happen.
I do get the feeling that most Christians I know are displeased that my life should be so good in spite of my atheism. They may think a little bit of humility (as in suffering) might do me some good.
