Wife saw on a billboard on the way home from work today: pulltheplugonatheism.com  (http://pulltheplugonatheism.com/)
Why do they even bother? By opening their yappers, they just drive fence-sitters away by their silliness.

Anyone listen to the video about Ray Comfort challenging Dawkins to a debate? What was Dawkins response? (I can't view it right now.)
I think Dawkins should debate him. That would be highly entertaining.

It seems like it should be. And in an academic setting where academic standards of logic are maintained it's a complete wash-out. But in reality it usually ends up being more of a circus act than a real debate. When the people you're debating, and often much of the audience, play fast and loose with logic and evidence it frequently just becomes frustrating and pointless.
Years ago one of my physical anthropology profs showed the class a video tape of a debate between an evolutionary anthropologist and a creationist. The anthropologist laid down a rock solid case, in plain English, of the evidence supporting the fact of evolution by natural selection. One of his most devastating pieces of evidence was the genetic similarity between humans and chimpanzees. He very clearly explained how DNA works in heredity and how it links us with the other ape species.
The creationist then proceeded to deliver a sermon that was short on evidence and facts but loooong on charismatic preaching style oratory, appeals to emotion, entertaining anecdotes, jokes, and Biblical rhetoric. In the end he "devastated" his opponent's argument by proclaiming "He says our DNA is over 99% identical to a monkey's. Well a watermelon is 99% water so I guess it missed being a cloud by only 1%". The largely religious audience roared with laughter.

That's the entertaining part - I mean, how boring would it be if Dawkins debated Francis Collins or someone like that. :)

Yeah - that's the most likely outcome.

Wow - amazing.
The website seemed to say it would be a debate on the existence of God - but probably would degenerate into a debate on evolution only.
It does seem Comforts proof of the existence of God is that Evolution is False or something like that.
It still would be entertaining to watch.

According to the video Dawkins refused calling Ray Comfort the "Banana man" and a "ignorant fool". Apparently Comfort wants to pay Dawkins $20,000. to debate him.
The video goes on to show a clip of dawkins inteverw with that actor who did Expelled where Dawkins mentions something about intelligent designers being alines. The Comfort video then states that Dawkins believes that aliens created us.
The video continues with Comfort saying that he appologoses for the banan argument in the light of scientists saying thqat the banana was modified by humans to fit our hands.
He then goes on to claim that god gave us the knowledge to modify dogs and cats so that we could breed them in sizes that would fit into cars and lay on our laps.
The video ends with the requisite questioning of why Dawkins fears to debate with Comfort.
There were also a few advertisments for Comforts books.
I know why Dawkins refuses to debate Comfort. Just trudging through Comfort's inane wall of ignorance and misconceptions is too much for one man to handle.
There are intelligent people who believe in intelligent design. Then there's Comfort.

When I first saw the Banana video I started laughing - I thought it was a spoof. Then I stopped laughing because I realized he was serious. I showed it to my wife to see her reaction - she didn't laugh - she just asked me why that guy was about to give a Blow Job to a banana while talking about God. So I rewatched the video and laughed some more.

“Mom, dad, after my first semester at college, I have to tell you that I don’t believe in God anymore. Science has proven evolution to be true. The Bible is a book of fairy tales. There is no absolute right and wrong. I know this goes against your values, but I now believe in gay marriage and a woman’s right to choose. I don’t want to hurt you, but I have to be open and honest with you--I’m moving in with my girlfriend. This doesn’t change my love for you, and I hope you feel the same about me . . . .”
Wow. The fact that they're (the website) citing this (by this, I mean the fact that the kid is writing a respectful letter to his parents declaring that although he changed his viewpoints and although it might be different from theirs, he still loves them and is honest with them) as something bad is beyond me.
It reminds me of this lesbian I know who is going out with guys just to please her Orthodox Christian parents. They kicked her out of their house and she had to move in with her aunt. They honestly believe that she's going to hell and are deathly concerned for her. I'm more bothered by the fact of what they're putting this kid through. :scared:
For who tells you that you should tell other people how to live their life? God?
Ecclesiastes 6:12 For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun?

RD had responded in February through a journalist.
It seems from the video in the OP link that Banana Man is aware of RD's response from the "ignorant fool" comment (My bold below) but seems to have missed the rest. How odd. :D
I'm not aware of having had any communication from Mr Comfort, whom I
know only as the Banana Man (you won't believe what you see if you
take a look at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2z-OLG0KyR4 -- no it's not a Monty
Python sketch, he really means it).
$10,000 is less than the typical fee that I am ordinarily offered for
lecturing to a serious audience (I often don't accept it, especially
in the case of a student audience, because I am a dedicated teacher).
It is not, therefore, a worthwhile inducement for me to travel all the
way across the Atlantic to debate with an ignorant fool. You can tell
him that if he donates $100,000 to the Richard Dawkins Foundation for
Reason and Science (it's a charitable donation, tax deductible) I'll
do it. A further condition is that it will be filmed by Josh Timonen
for my website, RichardDawkins.net, and distributed by Josh as a DVD,
if he thinks it is funny enough. To this end, it would be nice if Mr
Comfort would reprise the ever popular Banana Sketch.
Richard Dawkins
The journalist replied
Sir, Thank you for your response. And please understand I'm only a reporter
in the middle, but Mr. Comfort has suggested the possibility of raising the
offer to $20,000. Your reaction?
And I replied to this:-
Thank you, yes, I appreciate that you are only a reporter in the middle.
$20,000 is closer to the fees that I am customarily offered. However, I am not in this for the money. My interest is in getting the Banana Man to PART with $100,000 of his money so that that money will NOT be available for buying animatronic dinosaurs with saddles, or other similar nonsense. The fact that he would be making a substantial donation to a charity dedicated to Reason and Science adds to the humour of the situation. Talking of humour, by the way, did you look at the great Banana video? It beats the Peanut Butter video for laughs, but only by a short head: http://www.unscrewingtheinscrutable.com/node/1258
