Greetings
Does anyone know of a fairly recent citation that's semi academic (i.e., not a web site, but a book or journal article) that makes the argument that one cannot be moral unless one believes in god?
TIA

This is going to sound snarky, but I really am serious. You may want to ask Stone Island.

I can point you to an argument that one cannot be moral unless one believe we have free will, but that's not quite what you asked.

UE, thanks, but I don't think I could use the free will thing. Hok, thanks, but I honestly don't know who stone island is?!

He is a poster here who has often argued for a connection between morality and belief in God (specifically the Christian version) and almost every post is a link to some article, book, what have you. You can take a look at one of his other threads and maybe try a PM.

I read the thread title and thought "Stone Island". Then I saw that you'd replied last and I thought "I'll bet she beat me to it".

Why should we give you ammunition to use against athiests to claim that all atheists are amoral?

You're kidding, right?

What, you don't have a phone book? Call a few houses of worship and ask the assorted shamans whether or not someone needs to believe in their god, or at least a god, to be moral. I'm sure some will say no, but I doubt you'll wear your fingers out before you collect many quotes affirming that position.
