View Full Version : Quarks is Closed -- For Good?!

I'm in Vega$ this week on business and after trying the listed number for Quarks and then calling the Hilton directly (ostensibly the location of Quarks) were told by staff at the Hilton that Quarks is closed -- for good! I had planned on dropping by tonight to check it out (hoping it had reopened), take a few photos, have a drink or two and do a quickie review for the TAM forum.

Waaaahhh!

Say it ain't so Joe!

Does anyone have any evidence to the contrary? Where can we find the previously mentioned rumors of Quarks' reopening?

Sniffle, sniffle, sad tear...

The Star Trek Experience at the Hilton, including Quark's, has closed for good.

They're moving the Experience to a mall called Neonopolis, but when it'll reopen (and whether Quark's will be there at all), is still unknown.

and well, after a little more "Googling," I've answered my own question.

Original plans to have Quarks reopen on the 8th (coinciding with the release of ST X1) have come to naught. It's now 2010 at the earliest, not specific date available.

What Cleon said.

The Neonopolis was such a dumpy, boring, and incredibly empty shopping mall, when I last suffered through the place, a few years go. Now, has been transformed into our last and only hope for the History of the Future for humanity!

TaoMacGuy, it's up to you to search every bar in Vegas to find a suitable one then!

I will do my best to toss myself on this particular grenade! ;)

So far, although it's not a bar, per se, I've discovered the Grand Lux Cafe Palazzo (in the Palazzon on The Strip) serves up a very nice Mojito (and not too sweet, the bane of many lesser Mojitos)!

Mojitos are so 2007.

I don't follow trends, I just like Mojitos! ;)

Friends,

I took a little expeditionary journey tonight after work and found several suitable bars in the same area, and not too far from South Point to boot. It's late. I'm tired. I'll have a complete report in the next day or two (and with any luck, I'll actually go back, take photos and post them too).

Stay tuned!

It won't be quarks, but I hope they might work. Also, I'll still keep my eyes peeled as I'm still in Vegas through Sunday midday!

Hey, everybody...

I live in Vegas now, so here's the scoop on some of the local bars. Keep in mind, though, that there are plenty of bars actually in South Point, and that since South Point is kind of far from the Strip and Downtown... well, there's no real reason to leave.

High Limit at Encore - This bar backs on the casino at Encore, and has every kind of extraordinarily expensive liquor you could possibly imagine. Open 24 hours.

The Square Apple (http://thesquareapple.com/) - This is where Cirque du Soleil performers go to do variety acts instead of working under directors. Bar is open 24 hours, arrive before ten if you want to see whatever performance is going on that night.

The Beauty Bar (http://www.beautybar.com/lv/home.html) - Young, trendy kind of crowd. Kind of gothish some nights. Always a show or something on the weekends. Bartenders are really nice. Dress code enforced. Open until around 3am.

The Griffin (http://www.thegriffinlounge.com/) - Understated lounge type atmosphere. Mixture of young and slightly touristy crowd. Lots of punk music on the jukebox. Nice ambiance. Open until around 4am.

Double Down (http://doubledownsaloon.com/) - Kind of a trashy joint, but it's where the locals go in the dead of night. They serve bacon martinis. Really. Open 24 hours.

Frankie's Tiki Room (http://www.frankiestikiroom.com/)- Kind of a place where you'd expect Lucy and Ricky to vacation. Nifty throwback with some Las Vegas kitsch. Open 24 hours.

Revolution Lounge at the Mirage (http://www.lightgroup.com/nightlife/beatles-revolution-lounge-las-vegas/) - Go for the Ticket To Ride experience with all Beatles music from 8pm - 10pm. Great bartenders, awesome decor. Very touristy. This is a great place to go either just before or just after seeing LOVE, which is, in my opinion, the best show on the Strip. Dress code enforced, open until 4am.

Good info, RemieV! Thanks for the inside scoop.

I want a bacon martini.

I've seen how we dress at TAM. The words "Dress Code" probably are not good for our group. Tiki sounds great but only if Remie dresses up at LUCY!

Actually, I think we'll all probably find a great bar at South Point and end up just taking it over. It's all about hanging together.

Though a bacon martini? Hmmm...

And not bacon *flavoured* either, kitty. A martini with actual strips of bacon in it ;)

RemieV - did any of those places happen to rip off the recipe for a Warp Core Breach?

Drinking a fishbowl full of liquor and dry ice is what it's all about. :D

Doesn't the South Pointe have one or more bars?

Yeah, somehow I think quantity over quality is important here.

What makes the WCB special is that it's got both. :D

Wow
I must have just got to see the Trek Ex just before it closed.
I took my wife and son to LV last year and me and the boy “trekked” our way to the Hilton from Circus Circus (it wasn’t bad for the price, but it seemed like every single child from south of the Rio Grand was there at the same time)
So any way we are doing the Star trek experience, we get on the motion sim part of the thing, the guide/actors are doing their best to stay in character. I have the seat next to the gull wing door, the “pilot” tells everyone to obey safety rules, keep hands away from the doors, blah blah. So along the door is row of “buttons” (really a plastic panel with lights behind it) so I touch one of these fake buttons.
The “pilot” admonishes me in funny tongue-in-cheek sort of way. Not 10 seconds goes by when the ride malfs ( the movie had just started the lift off sequence). ( I kid you not, there was a blue screen of death) So we all have to get out stand next to the wall while they reboot, The funniest thing was the guides/actors trying to stay in character while we stood around for 20 minutes.

FWIW, I've posted a thread here (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?p=4704430#post4704430) with an alternative to Quarks. Read there for details.
