Is there an underlying reason why there is support for the 9/11 CT?
Is there some sort of high level "truther" out there that is making money off of this conspiracy theory somehow?

All of the ones that write books or have shows based on it. The followers are just that, following. I once read an interesting article about Alex Jones and his wife. Alex had a fellow genesis radio host do his show one day while AJ was away. The guy did so happily but after the wife heard the show she tore into the guy for not plugging AJ's videos enough. According to the guy, she really was very angry. Forget about the fact that the guy did AJ a favor for hosing the show for FREE, she went on and on about the damn videos. It seems that as much as AJ encourages truthers to spread his dvds around to as many as possible, they do make a decent profit from those who actually pay for his crap, and the thought of ONE day passing by without the normal amount of AJ shoving his vids down his listener's throats, was more than his loving wife could handle.
I am sure most who peddle truther material at a cost make a killing off the nuts that follow. The owner of genesis network who also owns a gold company made very nice profits off of y2k scare, and most recently the bailout scare where AJ had everyone thinking the dollar would crumble any day now. The guy who owns the efoods direct company that AJ pushes alot also added a nice amount of new customers to his order list. Ask the guy who sales Berkey™ Water Filtration Systems if there is money to be made. :)

His stuff's going to go gangbusters when 2012 rolls around, because, you know, we're all gonna die.

AJ says that if he wanted to make money he woudnt give it away on the internet and allow file sharing. But I think its a great marketing gimic, as if your market is big enough a certain percentage will buy your film. It may work out to be the same as just trying to market a film the usual way, but this way is even better because people who dont buy it also become fans and click on ads on his website, they promote it to others, sign up for his prision planet subscription and may even buy one of his dvds eventually. For a one off film this may not work so well, but for the Alex Jones industry I think its perfect.

Tex Anderson, who also owns Midas Resources, which advertises on Genesis Communications Network, which is owned by...Tex Anderson.
I believe that's what the French call le conflict de interest.

That doesn't sound like a conflict of interest to me. Media outlets advertise their own products and the products of their subsidiaries all the time. CBS for example. For example CBS advertises it's shows during commercial breaks, on CBS Outdoor billboards, and on CBS radio stations.
Sounds more like shameless self-promotion.

I don't know what GCN's editorial policy is (especially since it looks like they don't employ any editors (http://www.gcnlive.com/contact.php)) but how much of a firewall can there be between editorial and advertising when Midas and GCN are operated out of the same building? Sounds like a conflict of interest to me.

Maybe I just don't understand what a conflict of interest is. :(

I can just see a day at the office now,
Tex "Hey Alex, sales are a little slow today and the price of gold is slowly going up. Think you could create a minor scare?"
Alex "Sure, Tex. I'm sure there is plenty of crap I can chose from on today's front page, let me just see what works."
Midos sales always go up when Alex starts to spout. I used to believe the guy over at efoods direct was a decent fellow, but he uses Alex to boost sales just as much as Tex. The truther movement is one hell of a money maker if you ask me.

From their constant begging for money, I would say it's more a case of people trying to profit from the Truth Movement, and failing miserably.
You have the profiteers, but then you also have the pure fanatics, and those who support the Twoof movement for political reasons...count Charlie Sheen among those.

For the record, the guys name is Ted Anderson, so if anyone is looking up more try that instead of Tex. I would say that for a few the begging is more due to greed than need. Ted and Alex certainly make nice incomes. Think I'll dig around a bit to see what kind of money they do make. Or at least their companies. Genesis is non profit I think, but should not be hard to check on the rest.

What about that group behind Zeitgeist? Venus Project?

Jason Bermas from Loose Change has certainly moved up in the world. Not to say that he was a poor dude before 9/11 but afterwards I think it safe to say his income has increased a good bit. He now host his own show on Genesis named The Info Warrior.

I generally regard the truthers pimping for motives regarding profit=guilt to be fundamentally hypocritical. Furthermore, they tend to get claims made from that fallacy rather wayward as per; "Silverstein recieved a 7 billion profit" yadda yadda. Interestingly enough, there are countless of private contractors that, through no fault or guilt of their own of course, have made substantial profits from events like 9/11.
It tells us very little about anything other than if a big catastrophical event happens, for any reason or motive, someone is going to have to pay a lot of people to do a lot of work.
