Kittens school mascot was the Indians. The school was first opened as a school for the natives, but I think most of them died off of some disease so they opened it to white kids.
Now many a year later they have been without a mascot for awhile. so, they came up with THIS....
by Phil Kijack of IDS.News
We rarely ever hear about the Ivy League's mascots. Maybe because they're too busy taking over the world, or maybe because they just suck at sports.
Regardless, it is strange that a controversy has erupted about the choice of a new school mascot at one of the nation's finest schools.
Dartmouth is in a strange predicament that many of us at IU can empathize with: they don't have an anthropomorphic school mascot. Lately the students have taken it upon themselves to aid the situation and offer up some suggestions.
The most popular of the bunch has come from the writers of Jack-o-Lantern, the school's humor publication. (We here at IU also have a humorous publication; it's called the IDS Weekend … just kidding.) They have created Keggy, a bipod beer keg with a huge smile on his face that has been entertaining crowds young and old at recent football games.
"We tried to come up with a mascot that wasn't racist, biased or sexist, yet entirely unacceptable," Keggy creator Nic Duquette told The Dartmouth, the school's newspaper.
Expected to be ejected from the game, Keggy was surprisingly invited by the school marching band on to the field and was asked to sign autographs at a hockey game later in the week.
Conclusion: Everyone loves Keggy!
Well, almost everyone.
The expected backlash from parents of perspective and current students has flooded The Dartmouth's mailboxes.
"I think choosing Keggy as the mascot would not reassure the parents of future prospective freshmen," said Lance Labun of Tempe, Arizona, whose son is thinking about attending Dartmouth.
I know what would reassure Mr. Labun: the fact he's sending his son to a damn Ivy League school!
Yes, Dartmouth has a reputation for drinking. Great. So did Mickey Mantle and look how far he got. A mascot is no indication of an educational institution's reputation, even if it's a gigantic beer keg who can dance.
Labun elaborates, "Picture yourself in 30 years trying to impress the guy across the boardroom table by the fact that you went to Dartmouth and says: 'Yeah, Dartmouth, isn't that the school that's mascot is a beer keg?'"
If I'm the guy across the boardroom table, that dude gets a high five and the job.

You know what, some people need real problems in their lives, so they can't stop worrying about things like that. Hey, the students are being sincere! They're there for the beer and it's their right. :p

I never knew that mascots were paid so well. For a part-time job yet! ;)

Feel free to start a few threads about your real problems. I'm sure lots of folks here miss the Bigfig days.

I think it's stupid. Really stupid. Now I want to be harsh here, but I won't be. Can't these kids be creative at all without going to the one and only thing apparently on their minds? Come on.
Something that is powerful, not a stupid keg, and relates somewhat to education or sports or something other than the evil alcohol.
I'm very dissapointed in the kids, very.

Well, they had other things on their minds, but the vote for a genitalia-based mascot was split along gender lines...so keggy wins at the tape...

Actually, the Jack O Lantern is a sort of National Lampoon type organization. the thought was that people would be upset, and indeed they are the most in shock that the school hasn't thrown Keggy out. It was a statement against the PC that made Dartmouth lose the old Indian mascot.
Lueven in Belgium has a statue of a student reading a book and pouring a beer into his open skull. At least they're honest.

I think Kitten is in favor of it (http://www.randi.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&postid=1870208937#post1870208937) mind you I don't think that she is the one paying $40000 a year.

If that's what my kids do in college (drink rather than study), I'm not paying for it.

The two are not muturaly exculsive (well not if the student is any good).

I didn't drink instead of study when I was in college. I'm sure kitten was doing more studying than drinking as well.

Kitten actually doesn't drink (she's not old enough people....)
Oddly enough, I believe her when she assures me of this.
She doesn't have time to drink! But to make extra sure I raised my girls on the "bad things happen to girls who drink" horror stories. I of course made up the stories, but hey, it could happen that you could get drunk and go skinny dipping and end up sold into slavery in Subic Bay. Pool Boy and I have a 6 pack of Sam Adams that has been sitting in our fridge for the past 2 years. So far only 2 are gone, so I guess it's a 4 pack.

Other than that, I think they could at least have come up with a slightly more original costume. I was expecting something much more cartoon-like ...

But my apologies to Leuven!
Yeah, the guy in the statue is a little spooky. Not exactly a Tin TIn type...

My highschool wanted to change their mascot from an indian to something. I suggested the fighting buckwheats. It was rejected.

Oooh, that gives me an idea. Schools could sell their mascot affiliation to commercial interests. They could actually make money that way. Imagine your sports teams being represented by Mr. Clean or Ronald McDonald.

Asylum is the local night club.
Horror stories:
There was the girl who got so drunk that she ended up shareing a bed (nothing happened) with a guy she had only know for 24h (and she only knew him because she fancied his friend)
Latter on there was the time when she drank so much before going out that she only made it as far as the bus stop.
To give you an insentive for frightening your daughter here is a student fridge.

I find no problem with the mascot. The mascot itself is for fun and will do nothing to either create or change a student's behavior or achievement.
Personal anecdote: I am an alumnus of the only company at West Point to have its mascot banned from Michie Stadium (that's the West Point football stadium: Go Army! Beat Navy!)
There are 36 companies at the Academy; each with it's own mascot.
I was in H 2, which we called Happy 2.
Our mascot was The Happy Man. A dishevelled cadet in Dress Grays worn open and askew with a teddy bear in one hand and a mug of beer in the other.
Many companies had someone dress up as a their mascot and show up at football games. During my senior (Firstie) year, a classmate of mine did so. Immediately after the game, word came down that the mascot was banned. Officially, he wasn't our mascot anymore. Unofficially, he was our hero.

Subject: Army investigation
West Point (NY) December 2, 2003 -- Army football practice was delayed nearly two hours yesterday after a player reported finding an unknown white powdery substance on the practice field. New head coach, John Mumford, immediately suspended practice while police and federal investigators were called to investigate.
After a complete analysis by both the FBI and Army Intelligence, forensic experts determined the white substance unknown to players was the goal line. Practice was resumed after special agents decided the team was unlikely to encounter the substance again.
Go NAVY!!! Beat ARMY!!!

Go NAVY!!! Beat ARMY!!! Damn. That's low. Still, I laughed.
I went to an army navy game once, about as enjoyable as football gets.

Heathens. Pagans. Men of low repute and women of none.
I scoff at you all.
Army did not lose. We re-prioritized our objectives and conducted a strategic redeployment.
Besides, I blame Al Qaeda.
