I know that Randi has little or no respect for The Amazing Kreskin. His main complaint is that Kreskin claims to be truly psychic. I always thought that I recalled that when Kreskin was on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson he stated that he was doing tricks. Watch Kreskin on this video of The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulous(burned out my spell checker with that one) to see why I now agree with Randi about this:

If you know anything at all about magic or trickery then you will recognize a fairly simple and oft used procedure to reveal a spectator's 'choice'. After this trick Kreskin claims to have used superior mental powers to force George to have selected the objects in the box. Well, he certainly 'forced' something!

I've always liked Kreskin regardless of whatever he wants to call it. He's goofy yet entertaining. I know that it's a trick and that's all that matters to me.

I recall seeing him on Carson when I was a kid back in the '70s. I was impressed at the time. Some years ago he was on David Letterman's show where he did a trick that was so lame I don't know how he could expect anyone to fall for it.
He had five small envelopes. He said that one of the envelopes contained a hundred-dollar bill and the other four each contained some green paper. Dave selected one of the envelopes and Kreskin burned the other four. Then Dave opened up the remaining envelope and in it was a C-note wrapped in green paper. Kreskin claimed success despite the fact that he never said the bill was going to be wrapped in paper. He obviously had the same thing in each envelope. Incidently, I think guests get paid $500 for being on the show. All he did was burn most of the money they gave him.

I doubt I would be posting on this site if it wasn't for Kreskin (I know, I'm not doing him any favors saying that). When I saw young I was very interested and entertained by his routines, especially his "hypnotic act." I learned his routine through research and by simply buying a book called the encyclopedia of mentalism at Lou Tannen's magic store. I learned a lot. I've seen him perform for large and small crowds and in the late 70's early eighties his shows were wonderfully entertaining.
kreskin has definately slipped the last few years. That clip I just watched (thanks for the clip BTW) showed just how badly. Statistically, the host of the show made unpredictable choices, but the way Kreskin covered the difficult situation was surprisingly poor. Who could even remember what the original point was? Kreskin has also started making more exaggerated claims than he used to (trying to sell wooish books I believe is the reason). Still, he never does private readings or claim to talk with dead people. He only makes money performing and selling books.
He at least had very strong ability at using suggestion. I've seen him simply just use suggestion on non-stooged people to make a card table jump around they had laid their hands on. His helstromism ability is second to none. His enthusiasm and good nature is infectious.
He is a woo when he speaks of ESP -- but he entertained me and made me think. I'll always like him because of that.
