View Full Version : Childish behavior on news shows

I was watching Fox News tonight. The topic was the beating of a man by the police and his death later on. What drove me nuts was the way the two guests with opposing points of view and the Newsie kept on interupting each other. It makes the conversations hard to follow and one person usually ends up getting his/her opinions suppressed.
Why do news shows allow this kind of childish behavior? It would be nice to see the microphone of some of these loud-mouthed jerks cut off while the opposing point of view is voiced.
Or maybe the newsies actually encourage this silly display as their own form of reality TV programming? It certainly is bizarre.
I switched to MSNBC and the same story was broadcast while two people managed to have a civilized conversation about the events. I ended up learning much more about the story than about how biased each of the guests were.
Sorry about the typos. Thanks.

It probably won't happen to Fox, but sometimes this sort of behaviour can sink a show.
There was a morning show in Australia on the topic of sports. You can't lose with a show on sport in Australia. This one did. It had a panel, and when a topic was brought up, there was not moderation whatsoever.
I tuned in once -once- and the topic was violence among children in sport. Y'know, when junior lays one on another kid while playing soccer or something. The panel then opened the topic to discussion. What followed what something like this:
"It's the parents I think Rubbish! No, you have to look at It's the parents! Look, the way you Can you name one Who actually It's the parents! I didn't get that..."
Six voices, all at once. 5 minutes of this, and someone called 'times up' with no resolution. Or even any idea what the issues were.

There's your problem right there. :D Yeah. I saw the thread title, and I knew it was going to be Fox News. They have a certain peevish quality, which must be what people want to see and hear, since they get the ratings.
Last night, Bill O'Reilly threatened to cut off someone's microphone.
