View Full Version : Louisiana School Disciplines 2nd Grader For Talking About Gay Mom

Just when you think acceptance for homosexuals is just around the corner, something like this happens. (http://www.nola.com/newsflash/louisiana/index.ssf?/base/news-5/1070310243280900.xml) A classmate asked a boy about his parents, and he responded that he had 2 mothers, and that they were gay.
A teacher, overhearing the remark, scolded McLaurin, telling him "gay" is a "bad word" and sending him to the principal's office. The following week, the school required the boy to attend a behavioral clinic at 6:45 a.m., where he was forced to repeatedly write "I will never use the word `gay' in school again," the civil liberties group said.
This is just appalling on so many levels. A teacher, principal and a "behavior clinic" (whatever that is) all agreed this was a punishable offense? Did it for Jeeeesus, no doubt...

Sounds more like PC run amok. Last night on "Wild Boyz" (a show on MTV) they beeped out the word "gay".

I didn't take it that way, I thought it was because they didn't want anyone poisoning young minds w/ talk of gays which is commonly known in the Bible Belt to turn people into homosexuals. But you (and Tony) may be right. We'll have to see what the school has to say about it, as soon as they get their official story straight. ;)

Either interpretation tends to show they are idiots.

That explanation makes a lot more sense.

The so-called "PC" approach would be to be accepting and tolerant of differences...whether racial, religious, cultural or sexual.

The more I think about it, I'll bet it's because "gay" is on a list in a teacher's training guide somewhere spelling out "bad" words normally used as insults and the teachers in question are too dim to distinguish between the different contexts. Either way, my original post stands.

What do you mean "you"?

Nobody thinks that, not even gays. Only radicals who get excited by 1 judge who thinks their airhead friends at a Manhattan cocktail party reflects a cross-section of the country and all that we should be in their personal view.

This is absolutely appalling!! I think the parents should consider suing the school. To tell a child that the word gay is a bad word!! That is absurd! That poor little boy. I just can't imagine why some people are so filled with hate that they have to torture a young child.

Actually, what worried me the most about that article were the words `behavior clinic`. That's just...scary.

I wonder if this will show up in foxnews.com's PC Watch feature.

I dont make it a habit, but recently they have had some funny shows. When Jackass came out, I started watching MTV again. I cant stand the "Real World" or those types of shows.

Gosh, thought things like that could only happen in my good old state of Texas! Maybe we are not the biggest red necks after all.

It's very odd. It looks as if "queer" is becoming the preferred self-identifaction for homosexuals, male ones, anyway. Who'd a thunk it.
