Did anyone else catch Robert Crumb's illustrated version of The Book of Genesis in this week's New Yorker magazine? I loved it. Then again, I'm a fan of Crumb's work.

As matter of fact I was reading it today in the subway. I was trying not to laugh out loud. I found it hilarious and a really good portrayal of the "benevolent" God that Christians have been indoctrinated to worship

I didn't see it, but wanted to give a lengthy golf clap for waiting 6+ years to make your first post.
(or did you lose some way back when?)

I just don't get it. How can people hold out that long? Haven't you ever heard of SIWOTI Syndrome?

Whaaaaaat?!? Six years ISN'T the typical lurking period?
Actually, I thought I did have a post or two way back when; perhaps they got lost in a forum software upgrade.
I will raise my voice for critical thinkers on occasion. There was a Boston.com pictorial of the sun using various methods of capture. They were breathtaking. Of course, the comments started turning into a "So, still don't believe in God?" love-fest and I felt a strong need to respond. One curious response from theists was their assertion that I somehow could never understand beauty (or, at least, not as well at they could). In other words, who was I to comment on the beauty of the sun, not having a reference point in some mystical being? Geez...talk about arrogance.
I probably don't respond to a lot of the posts here because rarely does someone postulate a theory that makes any difference in the positions of most posters. And, quite frankly, someone usually responds with exactly what I'm thinking, but perhaps expressed a bit better than I could. It's fun to watch the torturing of language and logic in an attempt to beat critical thinkers at their own game, though, and that probably keeps me coming back.

Um.... no. Care to enlighten me?

I checked Google and found 1,720 results for SIWOTI.
This was the first entry:
SIWOTI: Acronym for "someone is wrong on the internet." Describes the compulsion to post rebuttals to online nonsense, in the vain hope that it will somehow set the record straight.
Hope that helps!

Thanks.
And WOW, after six years of lurking, you've now made three posts in a day!!! Careful, now. Sit down, take it easy...

Thanks. That's good advice. I mean, at this rate, I'll be up to a dozen in no time at all.

Robert Crumb is fab. His sensitive depictions of human/yeti intercourse changed my life forever.
