HOLY ******

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090612/ap_on_re_us/us_radioactive_wasps

Today, the nests, which could number in the thousands, are "fairly highly contaminated" with radioactive isotopes, such as cesium and cobalt, but don't pose a significant threat to workers digging them up.

Yeah, that's what they're saying now. We'll see who's laughing it off when these little bastards start blasting Godzilla rays out of their thoraxes.

As for the wasps themselves, they're largely long gone — the insects don't reuse their nests when they colonize each spring.Which makes me wonder - where did they go?

I bet they're being collected on some volcanic island by a mad scientist who plans on using them in his evil plan for world domination.

I bet their newfound radioactivity grants them the power to assemble into a gigantic Decepticon-like super wasp.

There's only one man who can save us from our impending doom at the hands of these hymenopteran terrors...

Go, Power Rangers, Go!

Oh no. The guy in the picture above would clean house on the Power Rangers (even if I'm pretty sure he was the inspiration for them in the first place)

Is that Ultraman? It almost looks like Prince of Space too.

Is it Jet Jaguar? From Godzilla vs Megalon? And possibly some other films...

<I'm pretending like I don't still watch Godzilla movies>

Yeah, that is Ultraman.

My homeboy and cribbage partner.

Yeah, that is Ultraman.

So what's the "Man" hierarchy?

From the names I would assume:

Ultraman > Megaman > Hyperman > Superman

Surely "Mega" is better than "Hyper" which is in turn better than mere "Super" and "Ultra" beats them all?

I'm not talking about relative powers posessed, but just who is "best" from their names.

It's important.

So if I get bit by a radioactive wasp, I'll become Wasp Man?

It worked for Spiderman.

So just exactly how many rems is "fairly highly contaminated"?

Apparently not enough to cause any grief. Sounds like non-news. The title might as well be "Harmless non-problem found. Film at Eleven". Again.

,,.

I think there should be a Meta in there someplace too.

I for one welcome our new Wasp overlords.

Most definitely.

The trick is getting the wasp to bite.

Respectfully,

I reckon so - and you would develop the superpower of having an insatiable appetite for other people's jam. You would probably get a great big stripy arse and look like Stingo off Fifi and the Flowertots.

But where would Super Inframan (or is that oxymoron man) sit?

Which makes me wonder - where did they go?

They all died. The entire colony dies every winter, except for one queen, who finds a safe spot in the ground or in a tree or something and goes into stasis essentially until the spring.

Unlike, say, honey bees whose entire colony survives the whole winter because they are awesome.
