Can you really speak with a lost loved one after they're gone? Psychic medium John Edward explains how he crosses over to the beyond!

http://www.foxnews.com/hannity/index.html

This should be good for a laugh.

Thanks for the tip. What's with Fox first Glen Beck and now Hannity giving Edward air time?

They are both very religious guys and I think believe in this kind of crap. If you've ever seen Hannity he sometimes has a segment called Beyond Belief where he talks about religious gobbledygook.

I try to avoid Hannity et al. After viewing the link you provided above I was reminded why.

On a related note, Hannity's racist buddy Hal Turner (http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050620/blumenthal) might be facing jail time for his threats to government officials (http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2009/06/turner_has_court_date_with_con.html).

I would suppose that Edwards patter does tend to reinforce some kind of "life beyond the grave" beliefs, but most established religions would explicitly shun this sort of meddling in god's affairs. After all, Edwards couldn't hardly be considered any kind of official with god's ear, he doesn't even claim to, and god would have to grant a miracle for it to happen, would he not? I know that Roman Catholics are really against it (at least officially), because it contravenes the authority of the church.

That this happens anyway reminds me a lot of how catholicism sits with the Maya Indians of Mexico. They go to church on Sunday and say all the prayers, and are subservient to Rome's authority and that of the local bishops and priests, but when they get back to the farm they go out back and sacrifice a few chickens "just to make sure". In these other's cases it's not the Mayan/Aztec gods but it seems rather those of the woods and rivers and oaks of Celtic and Scanadanavian origin that the Western Europeans kling to.

And then there is the Nielson ratings to worry about.

I tend to avoid him at all costs as well. One of the few political shows that I just cannot stand to watch anymore. I'm definitely not going to watch this tonight but I'm sure a clip of it will be online by tomorrow. :)

I thought this was about the political guy John Edwards and I was wondering why any democrat would want to go on the Hannity show, let along someone who the GOP demonizes.

The medium's name is John Edward, without the S.

I think most of these people who believe in this stuff need something tangible to prove to them that god exists. They see Edward and similar con artists as proof that there is an afterlife/spirits thus proof that there is a god.

Hah. I don't follow the idiot too closely so my bad. Maybe someone can change the title.

In one of his books, Edwards says that, as a Roman Catholic, he combines the rosary with mediumship because they are two methods of entering the other world and one is linked to the other and yada yada.

Then, he said the exact same thing about meditation, which he says is another frequent activity of his.

Interestingly, he actually says that he didn't grow up in a dogmatically religious household despite being half Irish and half Italian (if memory serves). He even mentions an aunt who was an atheist and a non believer in the paranormal, to his mother's and grandmother's discomfort if not dismay (if memory serves).

James Van Praagh is actually also a Catholic. And Sylvia Browne, the child of a secular Jew and a Protestant (if memory serves), was a convert to Catholicism in her childhood and attended Catholic school and later had a career teaching in Catholic school. She says she regularly did readings for the priests and nuns in those days and says there was no objection to it. Now I guess she is a Gnostic Christian...but only she knows what she actually believes...it's a mystery to everyone but herself.

Edit: Funny how those priests and nuns of Sylvia Browne's didn't know that Catholics aren't allowed to believe in superstition.

Certainly not in fortune telling (what says she she did for them), because it subverts the idea of sin being a matter of choice and one's full responsibility therefore not something one can or should "forsee".

How did he know that woman sometimes clips her toe-nails? I'm convinced.

Seems to be like the book-tour appearances that networks like to show - I guess it's the easiest (or cheapest) time to get a celebrity on their show. Except in this case, Edwards is promoting some new web site (http://infinitequest.com/).

To me, the number one infuriating thing about that clip is the fact that Hannity just spouts out some completely false information about Houdini.

I was concerned as well that Hannity had lowered himself to giving airtime to that philandering hypocrite and faux populist. But I see he's giving airtime to a different liar and fraud.
