Hey, ummm...how come my card says "special"?

I'm afraid this might make for an awkward experience at TAM.

I was sent a student membership card by mistake so I emailed the JREF and they kindly sent me a new one. However, it's uh...pink. And it has the word "SPECIAL" on it. I checked the list - I don't see a membership level for "special".

I'm pretty sure they didn't mean anything by it. And I don't want to complain, but I'm not so sure I want to be "special".

I was curious if anyone else out there is "special" and if they know why they were deemed "special".

I'm special too. I believe it does refer to the special introductory first-year new member rate. Presumably we'll all be normal in the future.

If it makes you feel any better, there's no occasion where you have to show or display your card. Unless, of course, you want to glue it to your forehead so we all recognize you.

I'd like to suggest they come up with a better name/color for introductory membership cards. Maybe "FNG", perhaps in a nice turquoise?

If you don't buy tickets in advance, you can buy them at the convention hall. With the cards, they don't need to look up your name and figure out what type of member you are. Thus, they can quickly figure out what to charge you.

Seems a bit excessive for a time saver but who am I to judge?

He wrote that before TAM7 was scheduled he agreed to do something without thinking that it was near TAM7's date, and then was stuck when TAM7's date was announced.
