For some reason, it is popping in ? marks all over the place on JREF and other Web pages. This has something to do with the font not being correct, apparently. However, I can't see what to do to fix the problem. Any ideas?

In IE, choose View..Encodings You probably want Auto Select checked, and the language set to Western European (Windows). You may have visited a site using a different encoding and it messed with your encoding. I run into this a bit because I visit a lot of japanese websites.

Roger that. It was set to 8 bit. Don't know how that happened.

Ah, found it. "Windows 95 is a 32-bit shell for a 16-bit extension to an 8-bit operating system designed for a 4-bit microprocessor by a 2-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition."
