WASHINGTON -- Conservative Republicans angry over an unflattering television movie about Ronald Reagan want to put his image on the dime in place of Democratic icon Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Democrats are just as determined to keep FDR's profile in coin purses.
He's not even dead yet (technically).

Come on! It's not enough that he lives on in their wet dreams? They have to go naming airports after him, and now want to deface our coinage too? Dollars to donuts a drug-addled Rush Limbaugh will call for Reagan to replace George Washington on the $1 bill.

I vote that President Reagan gets a comemerative 9c piece (or "nime" if you prefer)
This will commemorate:
- The three branches of government raised to the power of terms served
- The holy trinity at the heart of the USA
- The victory over the evil empire in 1989
- the fact that for may years he was one sandwich short of a picnic

I think Teddy Roosevelt deserves to be on currency before Reagan. But I suppose anyone is better than FDR.
Why is Hamilton on the 10 and Jefferson on the 2? IMO it should be the other way around.

Iduno, those gold dollar coins kinda tanked bigtime with the Indian chick on them.
How about they redo the dollar coin with several US presidents on them. Sorta like the 50 states quarters but with the president rotating and but not the eagle side.
Rotate Reagan, Nixon, FDR, JFK (yes i know he was on silver dollars), and maybe Polk as joke.

To repeat an argument Brown made once, this represents a lack of confidence in Reagan supporters. They want to ram this through now, rather than trust that history will remember him kindly.

You need to have a standard on the obverse but you can play around as much as you like with the reverse (otherwise us poor foreigners will get confused)

Homer Simpson had a good idea. He claimed to have a $10,000 bill and when asked what president was on it he said "All of them. Theyre having a party. Jimmy Carter is passed out on the couch."
Doesnt the money really insult the non-money presidents. Soory Taft, you sucked. No $2 bill for you!

I don’t think he should be taken off, but should instead be in a less prominent role. Jefferson on the 2 is somewhat of an insult. And what about Madison? Can't they made a 75$ bill to put him on? He deserves the recognition.

This political idol worship/grand standing should stop. I suggest replacing ALL human heads with some of natures wonders. Half Dome, Old Faithful, Grand Canyon etc.

I say let's take a lesson from North Korea...all of our money should only have Ronald Reagan's picture on it....that will make clear that it is morning in America in perpetuity.....all of our stamps should have Ronald Reagan on them as well...and, just to make sure the lesson is driven home, post offices, customs areas at airports, embassys, etc. should only display Ronal Reagan's picture rather than that of the sitting president. Also, just for good measure, California should be re-named Reaganvania and Sacromento Ronville. They could call San Fransisco "Nancy" 'cause it is (sorry for the homophobic, un PC humor there). :p

Anyone who suggests that Reagan somehow deserves to supplant FDR on the dime is living in a fantasy land. This whole dispute smacks of pettiness.

You forgot to employ your sense of humor, G. Lighten up.
I agree with ap/Brown; it shows a lack of confidence in Reagan's supporters. But then, wasn't there a semi-serious proposal to put Reagan's face on Mt. Rushmore while he was still in office?

I think it would be perfectly appropriate for Reagan's likeness to adorn that gold-colored coin. On the back should be a starling, which ought to be the National Bird (how many eagles have most people seen this morning?).

Oh yes, enforced Reagan tatoos on everyone's forehead (note: Ronald -6 letters- Wilson -6 letters- Reagan -6 letters! The number of the beast!) It would only be a fitting honor to this greatest of all Americans ever in the whole history of the human race (including the history to come that hasn't been made yet but which will someday be in a time when everyone is free to sing the praises of Reagan openly and with confidence that they are doing proper honor to the greatest human being to ever stroll the hills of California.....)

I remember when I first met Reagan. He walked across the water on the reflecting pool, he then healed a bunch of leapars whith a wave of his hand. We we hungry and he fed the crowd with only one bag of jelly beans, he sobered up Ted Kennedy, he flew around the world and reversed time in order to save Lois Lane. Ah yes I miss the 80s' that was the decaded............I dropped alot of acid.

Some other countries have scientists on their currency. (http://www2.physics.umd.edu/~redish/Money/)
That's a much better idea.

That's a pretty dated site. How long has Charlie Darwin been on the British 20 pound note? It wasn’t featured on that site.
But we do have one scientist on our money.

Since Ronald Reagan (along with his two Bush successors) is responsible for most of this country’s national debt, I have the following proposals:
1) Put Reagan’s picture on the United States Treasury Bill, our principle unit of public debt.
2) Rename the Watergate the Ronald Reagan Memorial Watergate Hotel.

Gotta love that rainbow divider. If only there was an 'under construction' graphic, too. Darwin is on our ten pound note, but as he wasn't a physicist, he wouldn't have been on the site. Michael Faraday used to be on the twenty pound note and is included. He was subsequently replaced by Elgar, though.

So, that is the standard you want to set?
You hate Clinton, so the fact that he almost ran up as much debt as Reagon says what about the allegedly fiscal conservative/pro-small government Reagan?
Clinton "did it" so now it's ok, indeed, deserving of a "coin" for being great? Than, maybe Clinton should get a coin for not having run up quite as much debt (Georgie W. btw, is well on his way to beating both Clinton and Reagan and GROWING the size of government at the same time...there soon will be a new standard..."well, at least he didn't run up as much debt as George Bush...).

Sheesh, are you a member of the Clinton defense league? I was simply offering a point of fact on national debt. And do you think perhaps having to deal with a recession during your term of office has something to do with national debt accumulation?
BTW, for the record, I don't hate Clinton. I think he blew a golden opportunity (read 8 years of economic stability) to make some real progress in the country and internationally, but instead focused on getting bjs. What a pity.
