There's this quote kicking around that I suspect is bogus:

"If the people had ever known the truth
about what we Bushes have done to this nation,
we would be chased down in the streets and lynched."

The only thing I've found that suggests the origin of this quote is here:

http://www.flybynews.com/cgi-local/newspro/viewnews.cgi?newsid1127141457,15227,

In that link, the quote isn't actually from GHWB but from someone who says they saw it in McClendon's newsletter. And "we" is changed to "we Bushes" after the ascendency of Bush43 to the presidency. It wouldn't have made any sense in 1992 or 1995. The "to this nation" part also seems to have been added later.

I am also aware that, in spite of her credentials, McClendon was supposed to have been a bit of a moonbat herself. But the question is whether the actual newsletter cited exists. If anyone could find it and post an image of the original, it would be much appreciated.

I've only been able to rely on the link shown to allege that GHWB never said that. At the very least I would like to establish the context of the quote.

I think the original was something along the lines of "if people knew what really went on, they'd be out on the streets lynching people" or to something of that affect. Going strictly on memory.

Retroactive fact-altering? Who would do such a thing?
