View Full Version : Hotel location?

Generally speaking where is the hotel located? Not it's address, but a general idea of what area of Las Vegas it in (I know nothing about the city).

Is it on the strip? Walk outside into a perpetual night of glowing neon? Or it off in an Industrial Office block somewhere, like the hotel of TAM1?

The reason I ask is because I'm a vegetarian (yeah, still), and I need to know how far I can wander to get food. The nearest Indian or Italian restraunt, fer instance...

Hope this is helpful.

ask Moe too. She said it may look like you can walk somewhere, but there are kind of major roads in the way..

Oh, Bignickel - There is an Italian restaurant where the "Whole bunch of restaurants" are. It's called Piero's Trattoria. I've never eaten there, so I don't know how it is. The "whole bunch of restaurants" are within walking distance. Most of the restaurants there cater to the "yuppie" crowd. The Indian restaurants would be a bit far for me, but I'm severely out of shape. You can probably coordinate with some of us local folks for rides to restaurants. There are some great places off-strip.

The real question is:

Which Outback Steakhouse is closer - The Strip or Flamingo?

Ask and ye shall receive. Flamingo. It's west of The Strip (The Tuscany is east from The Strip), across from The Rio. My husband and I will bring both cars to help get people around and we have a few more local friends coming, too, who can help with transportation.

Holy cow on toast, nailed to a wall and sung hosannas to, these are some fast responses!

Thanks for the info. I'm still trying to finagle a trip, but not easy, considering that I'm off to Paris tomorrow.

Just a question from an economic point of view:

What is the price of the average restaurant? (I'll be bringing some spending money, but I'm not going to bring my entire life savings with me either).

In Europe, a non fast-food restaurant will be between 15 and 25 Euro (which is probably about the same amount in US dollars). A beer or a coke will cost about 1,5 Euros. McDonalds is between 5 and 10 Euros for a burger, fries and drink. Can I expect the same price range in Las Vegas, or are things much more expensive/cheap there?

I have never been to Vegas, but I wouldn't expect prices to be a lot higher than what I'm used to. Around here, $25 usually gets you a really nice meal. At most restaurants you could get a decent dinner for less than $15 after tax and tip (assuming you're not getting seafood or lots of alcohol). Obviously, Vegas has a lot of very fancy restaurants where this won't apply.

That's probably about right for a coke at a sit down restaurant. (Also, a lot of restaurants give you free refills for soft drinks.) Expect to pay more for beer, though.

McDonalds is between 5 and 10 Euros for a burger, fries and drink.

I'd say that would be $5-$6.

Thanks markB, that puts me in perspective. Now I can start working on a budget.

Best Indian place ever is across the street and down a little ways. I think it's Ghandi's. It's been so long since I've been there. Oh, what a craving.
There's also an Indian place in the Rio that's really really great.
Foofer did all the hard work for you, though, with that great map.

Aw, shucks. I make maps all the time for work (commercial real estate appraisal firm) so no biggie. Thanks for the heads up on Ghandi's. I haven't tried any Indian places in Vegas, yet. Yum.

You're in Vegas, aren't you? Why don't we know each other?

Maybe, but I still know a lot of people who are different than me. I'll be surprised if we don't have SOME connection.

Moe, we've met briefly. I was in the group with atheist boy scout Darrell Lambert at P&T's show a while back and I was at the Flash Mobs. I'm the one that looks like a fat Velma.

Exarch, you're right. I don't even have a circle. :)

Oh, cool! I knew we must have met somewhere. I'm an idiot. Duh.
We should hang out more. You want to see me while I look all puffy?
