Victoria Jackson (SNL cast member 1986-1992) is rather upset over the new president. She posted a blog (http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/vjackson/2009/07/07/ignorance-is-bliss/) with some scathing accusations.
... Obama legally kills babies and now he can legally kill Grandmas! [through socialized medicine]
Hitler did this. He killed the weak, the sick, the old, and babies and races/religions he didn’t like. Hitler also controlled the media. (Where’s the public debate between scientists on “Climate Change/Global Warming?”) Hitler had the VW bug invented as the state car. What will O’s nationalized car be? So… kill off the weak. That’s the plan...

Last time I checked Victoria Jackson hasn't entertained anyone, even in her SNL days in which she was merely a background player to real comedians.

Particularly one as low rent as Victoria Jackson.I blame/credit Jackson for helping Franken beat Coleman in Minnesota. Her last minute ad with Ratzenberger, Stephen Baldwin, et al, was meant to show Hollywood types are not all pinko commies. Unfortunately for Coleman, her dotty "Go Vikings!" closing to the commercial left viewers with a lasting impression that the ditzy ones are Republicans.

I disagree. I posted the story to show that if there is not a one-to-one ratio between Bush Derangement Syndrom and Obama Derangement Syndrom, then there are at least in the same ballpark.

Its not fast and its not pretty. It does it slowly -- or sometime frighteningly fast. Once on Medicare, an otherwise healthy 65 year old can begin wasting away. Some barely make it to 70. Others linger into their 80s or even 90s, a few have even been tortured so much that they make it to 100 and are subsequently subjected to birthday wishes from Willard Scott. But, however it happens -- fast or slow -- it a statistical fact that everyone who has ever been on Medicare dies. 100% death rate over time. That is socialized medicine for you.
headscratcher4
10th July 2009, 10:12 AM
Just to further underscore the hideousness of the creeping socialism that Obama is imposing on us all, know that there is also a %100 percent death rate for everyone who has ever been forced to pay income taxes.

From the mare's mouth:
You stand in a long, long line with a breast lump, clogged artery, or sharp pencil stuck in your eye, and someone like the DMV person, who can’t speak English, has chewing gum, an attitiude, really long fake nails that curl up at the end, and is talking on a cell phone, enjoying their power trip moment, is finally face to face with you. They mumble something incoherent about paperwork. You die.
I mean, how can one argue against such implacable logic?
headscratcher4

More to the point...how is that different than what most of us experience in the free market? Have you been to an emergency room lately? Whether or not you have insurance, triage dictates how and when you are treated...sheesh...and, talk about incoherent paperwork...that is what my insurance plan dishes out in heaps, mostly so it can deny me coverage.
What she is worried about is already here for 95% of us....

Well, I'd feel like we didn't really connect if I didn't tell you about what I really feel is important. I am a genuine true blue believer...not in Kaballah...not in Scientology...not in the New Age movement...not in Mormonism...not in Buddism...not in Hinduism...not in Catholicism...not in Protestantism...but in Jesus Christ. I've studied all those other religions...and as a cynic, and a free spirit...I personally decided to put my faith in Jesus. I've read the Bible all the way through....and I believe it is the Truth...the Word of God. Read John 3:l6, Ephesians 2:8,9, Romans 3:23, and Romans 6:23 and tell me what you think. What do you think? Jesus claimed to be "the Lord"...He was the "Lord," a liar, or a lunatic. Tell me what you think and why. After all, none of us has died and come back to tell....so we all have our faith in something. What is your faith in? I'm eager to listen and discuss.
Well. THERE'S your problem ...

I certainly find the Obama/Hitler comparisons as laughable as I did the Bush/Hitler comparisons. I don't think at this point you can say they're close in terms of frequency, or how far up the line they go; the fact that an SNL actor I never heard of is the source says that this is something of a non-story.
Then again we have the whole Liberal/Communist, Conservative/Nazi argument but I don't see Obama being compared to any particular communist dictator (although he is often called a communist) by the right. Maybe the tea party guys were promoting the Obama is Stalin meme; that would not strike me as out of the realm of possibility. To be clear, I'm saying that sort of hogwash being spewed by the idiot right would not be out of the realm of possibility, not that the comparison has any validity; it doesn't.

Because they now account for close on to 30-35% of what now passes for news -that means the people who really don't care about actual news will still turn in - so their opinions , given on the "news", sells product.

If he apologized I assume we're not debating whether he was wrong, just whether he was more wrong?
I'll go back to my default position on comparisons to Hitler. The people who make those comparisons with any contemporary US politician (David Duke excepted) are not intentionally minimizing Hitler's evil or maximizing the supposed evil of the US pol they are comparing him to.
What they are doing is saying they're just as brave as those who stood up to Hitler. And that's what they should be mocked for ruthlessly.
headscratcher4
10th July 2009, 05:01 PM
Actually I agree with you, B., my only point was that I think it interesting in some wing-nut circles, they aren't calling Obama "Stalin" (is it because the USSR doesn't exist anymore so there is seemingly less an immediate threat?), they are calling him Hitler. I, like you, find it completely incomprehensible with respect to any US politician as well. Much as I disliked Bush, it wasn't applicable and those who did immediately showed themselves to not be serious. I think the fear mongering over Obama is just as bad. What disturbs me most, are politicians like DeMint who seem to have picked up on this nuttiness and incorporating it, if subtly, into their rhetoric. But your default position is, IMO, the right one.

Hollywood elite, to use the second word loosely, live in a fantasy worldview that has precious little empirical support for it, regardless of which side of the aisle they're on. But lotsa stuff works just great inside that mental model! And they're so sure about it they wouldn't wast an instant worrying about whether it would be proper to jam it down everyone's throat.

This strikes me as being completely devoid of substance. You could level the "living in a fantasy worldview" accusation towards anyone, for any reason, and there's no way to substantiate it.
Libertarians "live in a fantasy worldview that has precious little empirical support for it."
Democrats "live in a fantasy worldview that has precious little empirical support for it."
Republicans "live in a fantasy worldview that has precious little empirical support for it."
Small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri "live in a fantasy worldview that has precious little empirical support for it."

A worldview is ultimately a theory that can be tested against reality. Her theory, that Obama is like Hitler because Hitler killed babies, and Obama won't try to get rid of abortions, fails when matched against reality. Hitler's babies, if he killed them, were already born.
It's only a valid comparison if a god exists and established souls at conception. Since no god exists in reality, it is a mismatch and thus the mental model is flawed. (And I would like to quickly point out that even if a god existed and ensoulment, whatever that means, occurred at conception, and the god said killing the unborn was wrong, wouldn't actually make it wrong. You are under no ethical obligation to obey anyone threatening you, nor are you required to allow such a thing to develop when it requires your body. And if a god existed, that would make the ethical suggestion that you should not abort completely moot, ironically, as you're certain the soul would be saved by the god anyway.)
So please. I never type empty condescension. I only type loaded condescension.
