It seems the more we research, the more things are identified as linked to cancer. It almost easier to define that which doesn't cause cancer than that which does. Is this just statistical noise, or are humans really that vulnerable?

Our cells are quite vulnerable to many influences, including many sorts of radiation.

But that doesn't answer your question. I think perhaps the words you are looking for are along the lines of "confirmation bias".

By linked, do you mean, possible contributing cause, or just any association?
Avocados seem to have only positive links that I can find.

Possible cause. I admit, I'm often alarmed by people pumping gasoline... You'd be surprised how carcinogenic that is.

All animals are so vulnerable to the mutation that is cancer, that we have layers upon layers of defenses for _when_ not _if_ that happens. Even the fact that you'll die of old age eventually, is because of the division counter limits in all your cells, which in turn seem to be there just as defense against cancer. You'll die of old age in some decades, just so you don't die of cancer within _years_.

But those defenses often fail.

So basically, yeah, we're really that fragile in that aspect.

What gets me is one thing can give you cancer..but it can prevent heart disease..you get the drift. Its like...eat it or nay..pick your disease sometimes :confused: Then something is good for you...no its not, its bad for you.
Id say just give up reading.

I go through that all the time with the caffeine issue. My family doc, back when I was six, prescribed caffeine as a treatment for my ADHD. That prescription has been reinforced by nearly every doc I've seen since then, so I basically have no choice but to have three cups, black, a day.

Of course, every few months there's a new study showing the harm of caffeine, followed by one that shows its benefits...

I just ignore all those studies and keep drinking. It's easier once I add the Irish whiskey... :D
