CHUD (http://www.chud.com/) has an article on Gibson's religious movie "Passion of Christ". Starts with a little definition

Blasphemy (noun):

1.

a. A contemptuous or profane act, utterance, or writing concerning God or a sacred entity.

b. The act of claiming for oneself the attributes and rights of God.

2.

An irreverent or impious act, attitude, or utterance in regard to something considered inviolable or sacrosanct.

I'd also like to add the following:

3.

Anything that anyone does in regards to religion that the church cannot profit from, have a say in, or claim ownership of.

Hmmm... Interesting new definition, might even be accurate. What do you think?

That last part is the definition of heresy, not blasphemy.

He's talking about the third definition for "blasphemy", not the first two...

Which sounds like it was copied from the Devil's Dictionary (http://www.alcyone.com/max/lit/devils/ )... but wasn't.
