I think the most important idea expressed in this article is that conspiracy theorists want everyone to have an "open mind"..

...yet the conspiracy theorists themselves refuse to acknowledge any and all of the evidence that contradicts their ironclad beliefs.

if they say the moon landing was a hoax...then all evidence to the contrary MUST be a lie or faulty..or simply undeserving of their attention.

if they say 9-11 was done by the U.S. government..then all evidence to the contrary MUST be a lie or faulty...or simply undeserving of their time and energy.

and worse now...is that anyone who counters their arguments..is working for the enemy..and deserving of punishment or death.

Clearly another hit piece, because it's of utmost importance that one of the world's largest and most respected news agencies actively discredit the growing threat of a scattered handful of nutjobs and social malcontents most people aren't aware even exist.

I love this bit at the end:

Harrison Schmitt, the pilot of the lunar lander during the last Apollo mission and later a United States senator, said in an interview that the poor state of the nation’s schools has had predictable results. “If people decide they’re going to deny the facts of history and the facts of science and technology, there’s not much you can do with them,” he said.

“For most of them, I just feel sorry that we failed in their education.”

From the article:
I’ve lost visitation with my son. I’ve been expelled from churches. All because I believe the Moon landings are fraudulent.

Yeah buddy, it's your opinions that got you ostracized.
