From MediaBistro (http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/cnn/jon_klein_on_birthers_it_seems_this_story_is_dead_ 122546.asp):
TVNewser has learned CNN/U.S. president Jon Klein (http://www.mediabistro.com/Jon-Klein-profile.html) sent an email to a handful of "Lou Dobbs Tonight" staffers last night regarding the coverage of the so-called birthers and the validity of Pres. Obama's birth in the U.S.
In part, Klein writes, "It seems this story is dead- because anyone who still is not convinced doesn't really have a legitimate beef." Klein asked CNN researchers to dig into the question of why Obama couldn't produce the original birth certificate. The researchers contacted the Hawaii Health Dept. and confirmed that paper documents were discarded in 2001 when the department went paperless. That reportedly includes Pres. Obama's original birth certificate.
And of course, you know what this means.
CNN is in on it, too.
Is there no end to the treachery or the lengths the NWO is going to in order to suppress the truth here?
Gaaahhhh - the dastardliness!!

Does that mean Dobbs will be fired the next time he brings it up?
No?

I am going to have a heart attack. This is the first time CNN has reigned in one of it wackjob celebs in ages.
Now if he would tell Nancy Grace to stuff it, we might be making real progress.

No indeed (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/la-et-cnnobama25-2009jul25,0,3939176.story):
On Friday, Klein said he was not ordering the staff to drop the story.
"When I use the word 'seems,' that's an open invitation to disagree," he said. "Other people may have a different point of view about that, and they're welcome to offer it, because I don't think as management you ever want to be closed down to discussions about editorial issues."

Let me get in on that face palm. I have a short form Certificate of Live Birth which I used to get a driver's license, passport and prove citizenship for my former job. Heck the lady at the Post Office sent the COLB with my passport application, so yes the COLB is usable for a passport.
These idiots simply refuse to believe anything against them. It is worse than trying to explain elementary physics to a moon hoax believer.

So much for CNN's researchers! This from the Honolulu Advertiser

Here in my county, all "original" birth records were trashed (literally shredded) when computerization was completed. So, I guess nobody from here need ever run for high office, right?

OY.....Hawaii didn't discard ORIGINAL birth certificates (THEY CAN"T< that would be illegal) . They no longer make copies (PAPER) of the originals to be given out to anyone asking for a copy of their own BC. They went digital in 2001, meaning all information found on the original BC's are stored in a computer. the original paper BC;'s are stored away in the archives. From the digial records, they print up the SHORT FORM versions that everyone receives when they ask for a copy.

In any case, even were the original itself produced, birfers would claim it was a forgery. They cannot accept that a N-word is POTUS.

Yup, even if there was an 8mm home movie of Obama's birth at the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children it would still be N-word lies to them.

I remember listening to a talk back radio show in Australia back in 1994 where a caller was suggesting that changing to the digital storage of land titles was a government plot. I wonder if he is feeling vindicated.

This is exactly what the nutjobs want.
All they want is for their insanity to get any kind of press.
Once they achieve that, they can play the "controversy" card. It's worked very well for them with evolution, for example.
This is a classic case where the proper response is mere ridicule.
True, ridicule will not convert the true believers. But so what? Nothing will.
The battle is not for the true believers. It is for the fence sitters.
Giving it any kind of play is a victory for the wingnuts.
Making this a news item is a serious misstep for the forces of reason. By engaging, they lose.

I don't agree here. I think if either George W. Bush or Al Gore had lived in a variety of foreign countries growing up, that would have most certainly come up as close as that election was.
Had McCain won, MoveOn.Org would probably be making the same kind of noise about the Panama Canal Zone.

Obama has roots in Africa. He is half-black. His dad was a Muslim.
These facts alone make Obama unacceptable to many Americans..and they will do ANYTHING to prove he is "unfit" to serve.

I disagree. Even if Al Gore had grown up under similar circumstances, the GOP wasn't in such dire staits in 2000. The cranks were there, certainly, but I'm not sure the mainstream did anything more than humor them most of the time.
Obama's citizenship issues gained 10 times the amount of traction than McCain's did during the election, which I think says a lot. For whatever reason, I just don't think it occured for the left wing idiots to go there.

Yeah, the birther hooey HAS been getting some traction, but aren't you painting with a wide brush here?
And I'm not sure about the "ANYTHING" part. I don't see folks trying to prove that point any more than they already are - bizarre incoherent rants at town hall meetings, message forums, and those damned right-wing chain letters my uncle keeps sending me. (Which I think originated from Orly Taitz.)

Sure, the McCain question wasn't as much of a hot-button as Obama's roots were during the campaign - and IIRC, McCain was quick to beat down voices in his own party that kept pushing the issue when the "birther" thing was just getting going. I'm just saying there was a reason why I unsubscribed from MoveOn.Org's emails after about two weeks. My wife did as well, and she's liberal as hell. Had McCain won, we can't say one way or another whether or not the PCZ would be contested by the extreme left, but we can't rule it out either.
In any case, it's a bit of a moot point since we are where we are. Obama is the duly elected and legal President of the United States, and only someone who is misinformed, misled, or just purposely deceitful would say otherwise.

I work for a Federal Agency which is the main handler of land titles for the Federal Government, and I work in the section, and this makes me laugh. Paper backups of all titles are kept, and a lot of the supporting documents have not been digitized for lack of funds and the basic difficulty of the project. Scanning Survey plats dating from the 1850's is a bitch, I can tell you.
And this is just for California. Some of the Eastern States have much older plats and maps to contend with.....

So Matthews holds up Obama's short form birth certificate, which means that Matthews has studied the Obama short form birth certificate.
1. My question to Matthews would be something like this: On the Obama short form that you have, Obama's father's RACE is classified as "African"?
2. Can you explain why Obama's father's RACE is listed as "African", when way back in 1961, "Negro" was used to classify black parents?
3. My point is this Matthews: Is Obama's long form 1961 Hawaii birth certificate the only birth certificate in the history of Hawaii birth certificates where a black parent is classified as "African" instead of "Negro", the common classification of black parents on Hawaii birth certificates way back in 1961?
4. That is, Matthews, can you produce one instance in all of Hawaii birth certificate history where a black parent is classified as "African" on a black child's long form or short form birth certificate?
5. If you can produce a Hawaii birth certificate with the RACE classification of "African", show it to us, and also have as a guest on your show the black person whose Hawaii birth certificate you are displaying on your show

Eep! I take it that there's going to be no one over there at freerepublic who's going to point out to this person that BHO Sr. was Kenyan, not African-American, and so wouldn't have been called 'Negro' on government forms, but 'African' to distinguish him as a non-American (which, of course, disqualifies BHO Jr. in other Truthers eyes).

To their credit, a couple did offer that suggestion later on in that thread.
---------------------------------
I was going to start a new thread, but thought I'd tack it on here: Where the hell did the "a Certificate of Life Birth is not a Birth Certificate" and "his father was a U.K. national so he can't be a Natural Born Citizen" memes come from?
Every "Birth Certificate" I've seen has, at the top, "Certificate of Live Birth". In fact in the Freep birfer thread a guy posted his kids Hawaiian birth certificate to show the difference between a long form and short form and at the top it said "Certificate of Live Birth". Even more ironically, his wifes nation of origin is Austria - meaning his children can't run for President because they're not "Natural Born Citizens" since one parent was not an American citizen.

A bit OT, but when I was in High School (mid 1970s, oye) it was a favorite practical joke to order something in a place like McDonalds and then say "I just got back from vacation in Hawaii. Do you take Hawaiian money?" More often than not the clerk would go ask the manager.
