I just "upgraded" to FireFox 3.5. They say it's faster (it might be but I haven't seen that so far)...

I've got a problem I can't fix. In the dropdown menu where you poke the arrow and a list of your most visited websites appears (or used to) I get nothing but a highlight of the URL I'm currently at. I have to use bookmarks now to go to URLs I like. Can anyone hep meh...

Not sure about that specific problem but you could try restoring your last bookmarks backup (Bookmarks -> Organize bookmarks -> Import and Backup -> Restore).

Tried, nope. Just restores all the bookmarks from a couple weeks ago. Still nothing in the dropdown bar. Thanks for trying!

I got it, but don't use it. I'm afraid my machine might get raped.

As somebody that hasn't had a virus since 2000, I couldn't care less :p

I hate ogg, Vorbis left a bad taste in my mouth.

For a lossy compression format it's the best out there. FLAC is pretty much the lossless standard theses days and is another .ogg project.

Oh and there is a fair chance you use vorbis if you play any games.

Try putting about:config into the address bar then checking what value you have for browser.urlbar.maxRichResults

- check that it's not 0 (or missing, I suppose)

First thing to try: run Firefox in Safe Mode (Firefox safe mode, not Windows safe mode). Does the problem still occur? Also, click the star before clicking the down arrow and see if that changes anything. Sorry if this is obvious stuff you've already tried, but you haven't mentioned these so far.

Lessee, you're talking to a computerstupid person...

I click the star like I used to, and it used to add a favorite site to the dropdown. No longer. I click that arrow and whatever's in the field already is highlighted, nothing more.

In fact I feel foolish because the simple things I've tried to fix it have come up empty and it must be simple enough to fix.

I've tried to check by being on the forum, for example, then going to Google, (both in my bookmarks list) but the dropdown doesn't drop down; I have to click on Bookmarks and dig it out. Not really a problem, as I can still bookmark pages, but it used to be easy with the bar...

I will check on the FF safemode thing by going to Mozilla and doing a step-by-step, and let you know. Thanks for helping with my dumbage.

There should be a link to FF safe mode on your start menu, under Start/All Programs/Mozilla Firefox.

I remember reading that this might be due to corrupted profile data. The proposed solution was to try with a new profile.

Still working my way through it... can I hit that while online and with FF currently open or should I close FF first?

I have a doubt, so you should re-install it.

I would certainly advise closing Firefox, checking in the Task Manager processes list to make sure the process has stopped, and then running safe mode alone.

Maybe try this help page (http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Cannot+clear+Location+bar+history) at Mozilla support.
