If they're busy engaging in meditation, then they don't have as much time for crime and violence. But then again, the same claim could be made for activities such as solving crossword puzzles and bowling.
The notion that meditators will somehow reduce crime and violence perpatrated by others, however, seems to be a perverse fantasy. Hey, Dave, what would you think about holding the meditators legally responsible every time there's a new military conflict or terrorist incident? After all, if the meditators can prevent these unfortunate events by meditating, then the occurrence of the unfortunate events must mean that the meditators aren't doing their jobs.
