Ok, what would the "rightists" do with comic superheros?
Hmm... Kar-El is the last survivor of Krypton, crashes in Kansas and raised by fundamentalists. Grows up to be SuperBaptist, using his heat vision to level abortion clinics, his x-ray vision lets him find vile sodomists wherevery they may hide. We find the 10 Comandments one morning etched in 20 foot high letters on a mountainside.
Yup, that is just what america needs. And if you go back to the golden age they can have the heros fight against such evils as desegrigation.

Comic books (not necessarily the standard superhero variety) have a great tradition of radicalism, but not so much on the left/right political front as on other cultural topics.

Oh, come on, the comic book industry has been run by communists since the 20s...I mean, Superman? The man of steel? Who else was called the "man of steel?" STALIN! HELLO!!!!
[Disclaimer for the humor impaired: The above is meant is a sarcastic, cynical form of humor. I don't really think Superman was Uncle Joe in a funky cape.]
In all seriousness...My guess is the author simply states that comic books have been "hijacked by the left" in the all-too-correct belief nobody will challenge him on it with, you know, facts. Much the same way certain people claim the media is run by Jews or that the world was created in six days. They take it as an article of faith.
To my knowledge, the claim hasn't the remotest basis in fact. Batman goes around beating the hell out of mentally challenged or physically deformed people; not exactly PC. Superman was/is ultra-patriotic. The Punisher goes around killing criminals without trial. The X-men are just, well, the X-men. (Though it could be argued that the theme of the X-men movies is a thinly veiled attack on the anti-gay rights crowd.)

The X-men have always been a completely unveiled attack on racism and bigotry of any sort. (Since the first issues of the comic, but especially since the original 'all American' team was replaced with an international squad.)
The X-men were always hated and mistrusted because they were 'born different'.

And have you ever heard about a city who put out an open tender for superheroes? Free market it is not. Wonder Woman, of course, is clearly a representative of the Femi-Nazi matriarch conspiracy - I mean, a warrior from a nation of women, who have come to the USA and spends her time lasooing and tying up vilified men - how obvious can you get? Bruce Banner is of course a leftist pacifist - why else would he try to prevent the US military from producing and using the gamma bomb? The X-Men, of course, are clearly linked to the leftist / liberal block that controls our schools and ... :-P

sorry didn't mean to post and run. I have a new 3 week old baby that required some love and snuggling ;)
I don't find the comic creepy, per se, but find the idea that there are people out there that believe as the poster(s) on the thread where the comic was posted just flat out weird. #1 Comic book super heroes are SO important that we must have one that matches our particular form of patriotism? (yes, because if you don't believe exactly as I do, you aren't patriotic!!!) Come on, that's creepy. #2 The intelligence level of the people that believe that there is some sort of conspiracy taking over our comic books. Flat out freaky.
So that's the problem I had. Hell, make all the comics you want, I don't care, what scared me were the posters on the thread more than anything.

You left out she is a Paegan, comming from a society that worships the greek gods. Over at marvel you have paegan gods running around, Herculese and Thor. Don't even get started on the Scarlet Witch!
and the villians? How many times lately have the bad guys been tied to large corporations or secret government projects? It puts our real corporations and secret projects in a bad light! ;)

Ive been wathing the cartoonnetwork with my nephews (OK OK I like to watch the cartoons) and they have remade cartoons that I watched as a kid. Namely the Superfriends, He-Man, and Transformers. I was shocked on how violent and complicated the new versions are. Sure they are more diverse (Green Latern is a black guy) but they deal with things that the old school toons never did. For example people die. THEY NEVER DIED BACK IN MY DAY. and there are jokes that only adults would understand.
My theory is that they are targeting parents with these shows just as much as they target the kids. And of course its the liberals destroying good taste and our children.:p

I think the new He-Man is a huge improvement over the original. Transformers however sux. The JusticeLeague is a great cartoon, continuing the style and quality started with the Batman series (spawning a Superman series and Batman Beyond as well as this one) A far cry from the Superfriends which was targeted at 10 year olds.
Umm.. there is an entire Green Lantern Corps, with at least 4 humans being members. John Stewart is not new to the GLC, just one of their less used characters. Best known was Hal Jordan, there was also Guy Gardner. Then Hal went insane, destroyed the GLC, stole all the power of the main battery for himself. The last ring was given to Kyle Ryder who is the current Green Lantern. Hal has since regained sanity I think, but has become the new Specter.
Who has died in the cartoons? Plenty of heros died in DC comics. Especially during the Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline, they killed off a bunch there, including the original Supergirl. They killed off a Robin many years ago. Marvel Comic's Captain Marvel died of cancer long ago.

The episode had the atheist Hawkgirl arguing with theist Wonder Woman after Hawkgirl got sick of hearing "Hera give me strength!" They were basically fighting Cthulhu (with a different name) who the hawk people had worshipped as a god in the past. Aquaman fought off the evil Lovecraftian monsters who were attacking Atlantis, with the help of sharks, whales and such. Solomon Grundy was fighting with the Justice League because the bad guys wanted him for some reason. His epitaph was "Born on a Monday". Best....episode....EVER.

Oh yes, I remember that episode. Also recall an episode of Superman where a detective got killed when he fought against an invasion by Darkseid.
Anyway, it was the heros that needed Grundy. Dr. Fate needed a souless undead for the spell to keep the Cthulhu spawn out. Grundy agreed to help for gold (and in repayment for rescuing him from capture at the start of the episode). They found out Grundy's history, and Grundy changed his mind, he would help if they get his soul back. He ended up thinking Cthulhu had it so he attacked the tentacled one.
was a little put off by the theme of Wonder Woman's faith being useful and Hawkgirl's atheism leaving her empty.
We did find out last week that Hawkgirl has lovely green eyes to go with the fine red hair. my favorite combination! :)

Yeah comics have death, but toons avoided it. Remember how silly it was in GI Joe. Everyones shooting lazers at eaxh other but no one gets hit. And when they shot down a plane, they made sure that youd see the pilot parachute to safety.
The new trandformers diod suck, but I watched it the other day. It was excellent! Starscream dies!
Did you notice the sexul tensions tween Hawkgirl and Green Lantern.

Same episode, that detective's female partner, names are escaping me, gets injured and is put into the hospital. There and a few subsequent scenes (like the above mentioned funeral) she is joined by her (presumably) lesbian partner.
