You don't say. Some people will believe anything.

A poster said on the previous Kenyan BC thread (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=149807) that they'd like to meet the people who did the big reveal here, and that it was a trolling to end all trollings.

Meet the EPIC WINNARS (http://washingtonindependent.com/54104/punkin-the-birthers-priceless) who created the "Kenyan Birth Certificate" that ORLY? Taitz was screaming about on MSNBC.

C'est moi!

I can't wait for the big reveal. Someone, somewhere, has all the particulars of this hoax and is just waiting for the right moment to spill the beans. It's going to be pwnage that will be spoken of in reverential tones a hundred years from now.

I'll take my million in twenties, thanks.

I mentioned this development earlier today in "teh" Taitz thread. What is hilarious is that the Freepers are stumbling over themselves to discredit the "Punk'd" images as a recent DU fabrication while maintaining that the Taitz image is authentic. The cognitive dissonance on display is rather amusing to behold.

Meanwhile, a judge has thrown out Taitz' submission of the fake Kenyan BC ... because she failed to follow basic protocol:

Who did it?According to the link, it was an 'anonymous blogger (http://fearlessblogging.com/post/view/3037)' at FearlessBlogging. Thank you, Anonymous (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anonymous_%28group%29).

Some "sources" the Birthers have there, eh?

And if that weren't hilarious enough, check out the denial at that site by a Birther who got burned (http://fearlessblogging.com/comment/view/6791):Wow. Just wow. Obots are so stupid and/or desperate that they're actually helping the Birthers prove just how easy it is for anyone to forge a birth certificate - including Obama of course.

Wow. Just wow. Keep up the good work there.Oh. Your. God. :eye-poppi

Get this, from World Nut Daily (http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=106135)(which was ALL OVER this "story" from day one):BORN IN THE USA?
Obama birth doc update: Kenya sources weigh in
Comparison with similar certificates suggests fakery, WND probe reveals

MUWAHAHAHA! FAKERY? Ya think?

They haven't yet, as of 8:54pm US Eastern Time, updated their post noting that this was an intentional prank and that they fell hook, line and sinker for it.

Hey, World Nut. Make sure you post this update:

Apparently people are bitching about how a fraud can be punished.

The folks who fell for this demanding the hoaxer be punished for fraud remind me of the the 300-pound moon-hoax guy who wanted the police to prosecute Aldrin (twice his age and half his size) for punching him.

Technically, they might have a point, but...

Whooot! Someone should compile a list of what people have said about this real Kenyan BC to demonstrate just who was punk'd and how bad. One complaint - they should have seeded one supporting clue, equally bogus but from another source. Just TWO clues is all these people need to overcome their feeble little doubts and get them shoving their shoes further down their throats for months. Ah well, it might've gotten old by then.

Cool work all on this story - Mangoose especially. It's been a fun episode.

Please folks, take pity on this poor Brit. I need youtube clips of the reactions.

NB - In my desperate search for schadenfreude I endured ten seconds of Hannity on Fox News just after 3am (GMT+1) ... he was wittering on about how the Tea-Party crowd had been viciously slandered/libeled. Three showers later and I still feel unclean.

Looking into "fraud" in US legal terms, I expect any claim they might have would fall on this point:

Sometimes, it must be shown that the plaintiff's reliance was justifiable, and that upon reasonable inquiry would not have discovered the truth of the matter. For injury or damage to be the result of fraud, it must be shown that, except for the fraud, the injury or damage would not have occurred.

http://definitions.uslegal.com/f/fraud/

Although, if the birthers were to bite the bullet, they could have a way around that:

Fourth, the victim's reliance on the false statement must be reasonable. Reliance on a patently absurd false statement generally will not give rise to fraud; however, people who are especially gullible, superstitious, or ignorant or who are illiterate may recover damages for fraud if the defendant knew and took advantage of their condition.

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Fraud

So, any birthers out there want to cop to being "especially gullible, superstitious, or ignorant or ... illiterate"?

Meanwhile, a judge has thrown out Taitz' submission of the fake Kenyan BC ... because she failed to follow basic protocol:

Wow, Orly really is the worse lawyer in the United States.

In the order, which can be downloaded in PDF form here (http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2009/08/06/birth_certificate/03118539619.pdf), the judge says the motion was improperly filed "for the following reasons: Lacks proper notice; improper form and format; Counsel failed to identify her Cal. State Bar No.; description of motion conflicts or differs from that which counsel entered on Court's e-docket."

The delicious bit here is not just that they were fooled by a fake BC, but that it was so obviously a fake, that anyone who spent two minutes googling would have found out. But the birthers? No, it seemed to fit their preconceptions, so they ran with it.

It's not that it's a prank, and that they were fooled; this is a very effective demonstration that they're completely clueless.

Tell me...why does Burf sound so much like "Barf"? Or is it my hearing eyeballs playing tricks on me...?

So have they gone yet to the obvious conclusion to this, which is not that Orly Taitz is just as nutty as they are, but that she's a secret Obama supporter out to discredit the Birther movement?

I love it when the paranoids start getting paranoid about each other rather than the NWO that supposedly has them all in a tizzy to start with.

I love Dr. Conspiracy!

He points out another discrepancy in the fake birth certificate:

The fake certificate was supposedly issued in 1964. In the upper left corner of the certificate is the cost charged for the document, 7 shillings 6 pence. But what was the actual Kenyan currency in 1964 and if I were to tell you, what would be a memorable way to drive the point home? And the answer came to me, so obvious to an erstwhile stamp collector like myself!

It is this Republic of Kenya postage stamp issued in 1964 valued at 30 CENTS! That’s right. Kenya was in the decimal currency system.
...
The fake Kenyan certificates says pence, and there warn’t no damned pence in Kenya, not ever. Now get mad at the people who lied to you.

This is as good, if rather higher profile, as Unsecured Coins fake "I'm gonna be injected with an RFID!" nonsense that Alex Jones promptly believed. The Alex Jones fans who eventually realised they'd been duped were all calling for UC's head on a stick - not a lot of self-reflection going on there, or with the Birthers here, it seems.

Remember, Birthers, for every "Nanothermite" paper, there's also a "Socal" one.

As a stamp collector myself, I can assure anybody that the currency in Kenya has been since 1922, and still is:

100 cents (100c) = One Shilling (1/-)

You are all very learned people. Some people on the Internets do not understand things as subtle as the currency in Kenya in the 1960's vs what is seen on an official looking document. Such subtle bits can also slip past in the passions of the moment.
