It's like The Thing That Wouldn't Die - you keep lopping off it's head, and it keeps emerging from the grave. World Nut Daily, of course, is leading the charge (http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=106137):Hawaii state Sen. Will Espero, a Democrat, (http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/Site1/Senate/Members/Sen20.asp) has confirmed plans to introduce legislation through which the state's lawmakers would force the public disclosure of all President Obama'sbirth documents held by the HawaiiDepartment of Health, including President Obama’s long-form original birth certificate.
Birtherism goes bipartisan!
I see one of a few things happening here:
1) Some document is produced, providing everything the Birthers want to see, and it won't be enough for them.
2) This Democrat gets thrown out of office next term.
3) Birthers latch onto this guy as their new hero.
4) The document produced, if any, completely vindicates Obama, at which time the Birthers will demand to see his 3rd Grade Report Card.
5) The Legislation fails to pass, and the Birthers scream MOAR CONSPIRUCEEZ!!
Apparently, World Nut Daily hasn't been deterred by being taken in by an obvious prank "Kenyan Birth Certificate." FULL STEAM AHEAD! :cs:
There are a million stupid stories in the naked city, and this one is the stupidest. -Joel from MST3K watching "Beatniks"

From today's Honolulu Star-Bulletin:
The issue is not likely to go away, and Hawaii state Sen. Will Espero said he would introduce legislation next year to have birth certificates declared public records.
Espero (D, Ewa-Honouliuli-Ewa Beach) said the Obama fuss has raised questions about public and private records and says it would be in the state's interest to have open public record of births.
"It would be important for relatives and even neighbors," Espero said.
Huh? My creepy neighbor or any stranger off the street should be able to have access to my birth cerfiticate because it's somehow... "important"?
I hope this fool doesn't have much pull in the Hawaii legislature.

Yes, it's imperative that a key document that can aid in identity theft be made public and available to anyone.

Indeed. This is an idiotic idea, and should go down as one of those, "What was he thinking?" moments, followed by a *thwack*

Yep, bad idea all around. Since there is no chance it will be brought up in this legislative session, I assume this is just a bunch of hot air.
But on a happier note, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin editorial staff has gone on record in the past with their opinion on the birthers, as well as the 9/11 CT nuts.
Conspiracy idiots continue to maintain that Obama was not born in the United States so should not be president. They will cling to such nonsense despite conclusive evidence to the contrary.
...
The noise they make is useful in recognizing the extreme right equivalent of the left-wing crazies who contend that the 9/11 attacks were "an inside job."
Non-partisan CT bashing, gotta love it.

I can understand this desire to put the birther crap to bed, but this would never settle it. They will claim it isn't enough, and still claim that both parents have to be U.S. citizens. So I mean one reason is taken care of right there.
Now, yes this would be a dream for identity theives. In all honesty all the information needed to take on another person's life is right there in the short form alone, much less a long form.

Maybe if I don't say anything, nobody will know that's my district.

That means that you have Abercrombie as well. :D
Don't get me wrong, I actually like the old hippie, especially since he was the one responsible for the line about Obama in the recent House legislation wishing Hawai'i a Happy Birthday, much to the birthers' dismay.

Just like with the 9-11 Truthers, NO amount of evidence will ever convince them that Obama was born in the USA.
They have made up their minds and are sticking to their story. Its called extremism and irrationality.

Hey, I like him too.
I'm a little ambivalent on his gubernatorial run though - I'm guessing he's at his best over in the legislative branch.

Espero told WND his bill is aimed at "giving citizens access to birth records" under a standard of government transparency which would permit journalists to request in writing the public disclosure of vital birth records including long-form birth certificates of all persons born in Hawaii.
What a staggering invasion of privacy this idiot is proposing. And the Freeper birthers will stand behind this guy, regardless of whether he is proposing government intrusion into basic liberties.
No chance in hell this will see the light of day (shouldn't there be federal privacy laws blocking this anyway?), but interesting to see where the birther madness is going.

Why is it that all the failed gubernatorial candidates end up as our congresscritters?

gyah..doesn't this fool realize what kind of can of worms he's opening up? FORCE to reveal PRIVATE information? What's next?
Wonder how he would feel if someone got legislation through that revealed every single school, birth, doctors, hospital records he has....what kind of crap is he hiding? hmm?
Ewa district...never lived in that district, but god there has to be some smarter people that live there.

Honest question: why doesn't Obama just fax these clowns a copy of his birth certificate?
Am I missing something?
If I were Obama, I'd post the mother-f***er to my blog and call it a day. What are you going to do, use it to commit identity fraud? I'm sure that would go real smooth. "Mr President, your new Ditech mortgage is approved..."

Well two problems here. First, Obama doesn't have the authority to release his long-form birth certificate (if it even still exisits). Second, the folks residing in birthistan won't accept any birth certificate Obama could provide. You see, it's not really about the birth certificate.

Yeah, it's not about the birth certificate. It's about getting the liberals back for their refusal to accept that Bush won the election against Gore fair and square.

I have to assume that the White House staff have realized long ago that this issue is not driven by rational fact-seekers.
Even if Obama released his long-form BC, many Birthers will contend that it was faked.
These people are driven by extreme ideology, paranoia, irrationality, and yes...bigotry.
There really isn't anything Obama can do to silence them. Only the Republican Party and their leaders can shut these people up. Once they realize how much damage these Birthers are doing to their chances of winning back Congress or the Presidency, they will shut them up. But I think it may be too late.
If things stay just the way they are, there won't be another Republican in the White House till at least 2016.

As I understand it, he has been seen eating in public so that pretty much settles it. but then if you can also actually get him to hit somebody in public, it will prove that he is not bound by the Three Laws.

Not if the person he hits is actually another anthropomorphic robot. Haven't you read Robot Visions?
