The Australian (http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,6031426%255E421,00.html)

The Australian is among a number of peace activists who have entered Iraq in the hope of deterring US strikes.

I presume the rationale is that those nasty Americans would happily kill Iraqi civilians but wouldn't dare scratch a "western peace actavitst".

He said today he and his fellow human shields were trying to protect civilian power and water sites from attack and a core group would stay throughout any war.

I presume they have been given full access to these sites by Saddam's state security forces so they know which are "civilian power sites" and which are military communications hubs.

"There is a risk with being here. Everyone has to be pretty aware of that," he told Channel 9.

"We are taking precautions as far as chemical warfare and things like that. But we are not coming here to die

Chemical warfare conducted in civilian areas? Now WHO would be so nasty as to do that? Can't be Saddam, he doesn't have such weapons... does he???

Its probably the case that they will get to camp in a power station.

However their suspicions may be aroused when the official says "Please dont touch that switch, its the one for the wires attached to the pivate parts of the citizen in cell 5"

Another report from the Guardian - just finished reading it...

Human shields bed down in the target zone (http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,3604,901655,00.html)

Appears to have attracted a thrill seeker...
"The reason I want to stay is to feel within me what it is like to be under siege," an Australian woman who was not part of the first deployment yesterday told the television cameras. "I really want to see what it feels like to feel fear."
...why not stick to bungee-jumping?

If she wants to experience real fear there is a quicker and surer way.

Make a placard denouncing Saddam and parade up and down in front of his palace shouting No Saddam in Iraq, or Saddam, Not in Our Name.

I bet she would start feeling pretty scared pretty quickly.
