I'm not saying we can't have another Rebecca party (can one ever have enough?) but with a super busy September coming up there will be a get together for Rebecca on SUNDAY aug.23 in New Hampshire.

Bring a boat or your swimsuit...bring a gift (hey presents are nice)...

BRING FOOD AND BEER AND SODA

I'm supplying the water and cabin.

Lemme know if you want directions. Rebecca will be there for LUNCH.. she has to get back to Boston early...so come EARLY. You can stay late for the kayaking and swimming and looking for the alligator that has been spotted in the lake.

Oh and we can visit the Marharishi also (he's just down the road).

if you want to come on saturday and bring a tent or whatever that is also fine... the bears have been pretty mellow recently.

the bears have been pretty mellow recently.Bears? Randi Cassingham (This Is True) posted a story and a blog entry giving a very good illustration of why the laws against feeding wild animals are a Very Good Idea: http://www.thisistrue.com/blog-bear_country.html Don't feed the animals!

so despite the bears you coming?

No

So you want the address so you can send a gift.

This isn't a question, I know you want to send a gift.

If I seem to remember you forgot to send me a wedding gift, so just include that gift in with your gift to Rebecca and Sid.

We're in. We are thinking if we can manage to come early on Saturday and stay over (think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think....)

Hmmmmm.....what kind of creative dessert can I make Rebecca? (It will only be my second wedding cake....the first was 3 tier traditional-looking, but coloured green inside! The bride was happy!)

Scrut, we didn't get a wedding gift from you either, so you'd better get a pretty big box to send all those things. We can get it at the party too, along with Kitty.

Ha but can you SWIM faster!

(wait do bears swim?)

Ha but can you SWIM faster!

(wait do bears swim?)I think bears can swim, and I don't think I could out swim one. Enough about bears though; what can I bring? I could bring the chicken pieces I brought last time.

I should be able to make this. And living in bear country I don't worry about bears except when the come out of hibernation in the spring- then they are lean, mean, and hungry. Now they are well fed and mellow.

so well fed and mellow... means they are slower!

Scott, chicken is fine. I'm going to make veggie chili for Rebecca (she's a vegetatarian!)

Me. I'm assuming the fact I've never been married isn't really a factor.

Well now that you mention it... I never got a broke-up-with-my-boyfriend gift from Scrut. A bottle of good quality tequila should do fine.
And he should get a nice rib steak for Rebecca. It will pair well with the tequi... I mean... She would really appreciate the thought.

Hamradioguy
14th August 2009, 07:27 PM
I'll bring the steak for Rebbecca. When she refuses my gift I'll take it back and grill it for myself.

Now, are there any non-drinkers for whom I can bring alcohol?

I wish I had a bit more notice. I will try to arrange to be there. But, there is no guarantee at this point.

Why Sunday?! It's a long trip, and I will probably have to work on that Monday. Can we start the festivities on Saturday afternoon, at least?!

Sooo uuummmm..... where exactly is this? What's the address? At what time does the thing start? Why hasn't this piece of information been provided all throughout the thread?

oh sorry Wowbagger...

Rebecca has to leave EARLY... so it's an early party.

Wowbagger
18th August 2009, 08:51 PM
Well, unfortunately, it looks like I will not be attending this gathering. :(

First of all: It seems like an awfully long schlep, for such a short party... even if some of the fun might begin on Saturday.

I was still hemming and hawing about it this evening, when another priority came down the pipeline, involving family. So, that kinda clinched the decision.

There is always a slim chance that I might lose my sanity just long enough to try to head down there, anyway; and by the time I get it back, it will be too late to turn around, so I might as well go the rest of the way...

...But don't count on that!

Perhaps I can make it up to you all, somehow. I am wondering what sorts of goodies can have shipped down there. (I could look into getting some Tim-Tams from NYC, but I can't promise anything, because their presence can be elusive in that city.)

wowbagger that's so nice of you to even think of making such a long trek!

Really, it's a one room cabin, and Rebecca is really busy so we're lucky to get her for a day!

Still, I say a REbecca wedding celebration needs more than just ONE party.. .thinking a Bostonian might want to throw one also!

He'd love to see Dingo (and go eat your neighbor's dog food!) Give Rebecca my best wishes. I'll have to get to Skeptics in the Pub someday in Boston - it's hard because I usually work to 7:30 slaving for a software company. (Just glad they haven't shipped my job off to India yet).

My daughter and I are going to have to cancel :(
I took the bike to work yesterday morning and took a detour to the pavement. (ouch)
Only minor injuries, but I'm in enough pain to be laid up for the next few days.

Congrats to Rebecca!!!!!

That would be great, but I'd need a few weeks notice to make sure I'm available. Maybe at Scotts or, um is it Mumchups house that is also close. Maybe someday I can host a party (not a big house but probably adequate) however it's a mess, I've been working so much that it's filled with papers and dog hair. :(

Wool weekend? What do you do? Torture sheep? Or just spin and weave. I have a drop spindle which I've never tried to use. Anyone who can teach me to use it?

there ya go! wool weekend!

We go visit all the sheep farms (and alpacca) and buy wool. No need to know how to knit, last year Kochanski learned!! now she's knitting mobius scarves!

we just hang at the cabin, talk, knit and really visiting the farms (they have open house that weekend) is lovely. good chance to get away.

If I recall, Wool Weekend includes buying wool from a big place somewhere(?) and knitting 'n' stuff. And, of course, hanging out with awesome people like KittyNH, Mattfn & Kochanski.

I'm not near the Boston area. But if you ever want to see an Indian Casino or a 19th century whaling city, come on down and visit me in southeastern CT.

I'm going to try my best to make it up to Boston on Monday for skeptics in the pub too.

I would guess you buy finished (spun wool)? I don't know how to knit or crochet (although mom always tried to teach me - just not coordinated enough). Occasionally my medieval club does a "sheep to shawl" weekend, where they shear the sheep, card the wool, spin it, and then turn it into a shawl - pretty impressive.

Oh I want to come, sounds fun. But this next week is hell week at work. I work for a software company and I'm working on a new product. I'm a technical writer and everything has to be checked in by the end of the week. And as things don't work, they expect us to document our way around everything. It's crazy but I might still try to do it.

Oh crap, I've looked at the map and there's no way I can get there unless I leave work at 4:30 or 5:00 (need to get to Aelwife and go in on the Red line). Is there any parking near the place where they are? It would be faster to drive in from Southborough but parking is a problem.

I know there are parking garage(s) around Harvard Square, but I've never used them. I've always driven to Alewife and taken the Red Line.

How about chickens? You can knit with feathers? Maybe someone could genetically engineer a "cheep", a chicken/sheep crossbreed that gives both wool and eggs.

When I went in July we parked within walking distance. I am almost definitely going now. I think I've talked a friend at work into riding up with me.
Also, since I missed the party it's a chance to see everyone. I hope you can make it SuperCorgi!
