View Full Version : Will vitamins in cereal wash of with milk?

My mother called me up today to talk about Christmas presents. Then we got talking about my sister and some health issues. My mom said that my sister said she just learned that all those added vitamins you read on the cereal box?...are (get ready...if this is true...)...sprayed on. My sister went on to say that these vitamins wash off into the milk. Then, the kids are leaving the milk, after they scoop out the cereal. So...according to my sister's thinking, all those vitamins that she thinks her kids are getting...well, they aren't getting them. Unless, of course, they drink the milk in the bowl....which they don't.

Ever hear of such a thing? This is a new one on me. Total. 100%. 100% in the milk?:con2:

Crap. The thread was supposed to say "off"...not "of". Even proof reading doesn't always work, at Mach2 speed.:D

It used to be that a lot of the vitamins fell off and ended up in the powder at the bottem of the box. They have since changed the manufacturing process so the the vitamins are "stuck on" better.

Hmm, don't most vitamins taste funny? I would think they'd mix the vitamins in good, and spray on the sugar and flavorings.

That would be my suggestion, too.

At any rate, what difference would it make? The vitamins are in the milk, so finish it up!

Sheeesh......

growing up, my mother did the cutest thing to make sure we drank the milk when we were done with our cereal...she would burn us with the iron.

What? Who the hell leaves a bowl full of milk?

What is wrong with you people?

Not *I* said the little red hen. I always get more cereal to add to the left-over milk. But kids are another story. I have no kids of my own, but I have been over to other peoples houses. I see bowls of milk sitting on the table and have thought to myself that if *I* were the parents...someone would get educated. I'm not going to work, just to have stuff I buy sit in some bowl, to get trashed.

But I don't think I'd chase after them with an iron, either. Yikes. I ran an iron over the top of my hand once, and I was in the bathroom for a 1/2 hour with my hand under cold water. Do you know that with burns, it can continue to burn even after you remove the burned item? (So I've been told). Sort of like how a pizza can cook more, even after you take it out of the oven.

Claus---I know what you mean. I now buy calcium fortified OJ. I'm pretty sure I can taste something unusual about this orange juice. I was buying unfortified, and then noticed quite a difference in taste with the fortified stuff. I think it's the same brand, also. But, I drink it in the name of health.

My children for one. I am so tired of them using a half a gallon of milk on one bowl of cereal and then leaving the bowl full of milk!!

Of course, my cats are very healthy because they like when the kids leave the bowls of milk, which the cats in turn drink!!

Go figure. Now, if someone could only explain to me why my 13 year old leaves giant glasses of tomato soup everywhere, my life would be complete!! rolleyes: :con2:

Leave the milk ? LEAVE THE MILK ?

You lot don't know when you've got it good. When I were a lad all we'd have for us' breakfast was pieces of cardboard in stagnant ditch water.

And that were only as a luxury on Sundays

Cor. We'd have given anything for some pieces of cardboard in our stagnant ditch water. If we were lucky we'd have a piece of cold gravel.
