Black Man Pleads Guilty to Posing as Obama-Hating White Supremacist on Facebook (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,539445,00.html?test=latestnews)
NEW ORLEANS — An African-American man from Mississippi admits posing as a white supremacist to send a death threat across state lines by Facebook.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says 20-year-old Dyron L. Hart of Poplarville pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to making a threat in November 2008.
Hart admitted creating a name and using a white supremacists' photo to pose as a white man who planned to kill blacks because Barack Obama had been elected president.
We've reached a new low in the state of political discourse in our society.
The first ever recorded case of Afroturfing.
(Don't blame me... somebody was gonna say it.)

I've heard of people doing some weird and pathetic things over the Internet- claiming to be someone they weren't, sending weird messages, telling straight out lies, trolling, posting fake ads- but this has got to be among the tops.
Using racism to get back at someone you fell out with? Pretending to be a racist to threaten someone who happens to be black? Wow.

Story with more info (http://www.collegenews.com/index.php?/article/facebook_felony_man_creates_fake_profile_to_spread _fake_hate_0698389343436/). Apparently, the dude wanted to "get a reaction," but for the life of me I can't imagine what kind of motive for the obvious reaction he'd get would have been. I can, however, imagine the Far Right and some others (who I won't characterize specifically due to the distracting offense it would incite) jumping all over this as an obvious proof that people are out to mischaracterize them, thus proving the hate and hypocrisy of the (presumably Far) Left.

No need to get bent out of shape. The Far Left plays just as many rounds of "Jump to Conclusions" as their counterparts on the right. I can name about four individuals on this forum right now who would respond in precisely the way I stated. And no, to avoid risking personal attack I'm not naming them (it really doesn't take a detective).

It's not this idiot who makes the left look hypocritical and hate-filled. It's the sudden 180 turn from past angry demonstrations of the "Bush = Hitler" type to the current pretended shocked, SHOCKED disbelief that people can actually be rude and mischaracterize the other side in political discussions.
More importantly, it's the left's deep, indeed instinctive, belief that the objective facts are always on their side, and if anybody holds a right-wing position it just has to be because they are ignorant, brainwashed, or evil.
The left's problem is not that it is sure it is correct. We all are. It is that it cannot imagine how it can possibly be wrong, or that there is any other possibly reason apart from ignorance or hate for someone to think they are wrong.
This is, as G. K. Chesterton said, the very definition of a fanatic. In this respect, the average academic left-winger is as fanatical as the average, say, KKK member or Scientologist, in their belief in the left-wing view as unalterable dogma nobody in his right mind could possibly object to, and in the corollary, namely, that it is a sad, sad thing that so many Americans -- republicans and conservatives generally -- are so obviously not in their right mind.

Come on guys, is this really about left, right, white, black? This guy seems to either be a) mentally ill, b) retaliating against this woman, c) a real moron who got a very, very bad idea for a hoax, d) very weird and given to some strange role playing, e) someone who gets a kick out of the idea of causing widespread panic, f) some combination of the above.
He doesn't sound like a liberal so much as he sounds like an idiot.

How about that? It's just as true! (Unless of course you really meant all of those on the left in which case you're just wrong.)

I agree. There's definitely some kind of personality disorder type of thing at play here. However, you can't deny that people will take opportunities like this to politicize it. These sorts of things are great for one side or the other (both to it) to confirm their biases.
