Rock legend Bob Dylan was treated like a complete unknown by police in a New Jersey shore community when a resident called to report someone wandering around the neighborhood.
Dylan was in Long Branch, about a two-hour drive south of New York City, on July 23 as part of a tour with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp that was to play at a baseball stadium in nearby Lakewood.
A 24-year-old police officer apparently was unaware of who Dylan is and asked him for identification, Long Branch business administrator Howard Woolley said Friday.
"I don't think she was familiar with his entire body of work," Woolley said.

Or his entire body, either.

I wonder how our old friend professor Gates would have handled this?..Oh yea, we already know.

Gah. Off topic.

I'm glad but not surprised BD made no big deal of it, didn't get quoted like so many celebs, "Don't you know who I am!?", and was spoken well of by the police.

Though I did wonder what he was really doing there. Smokin' down? But Bob would be able to do that privately if he wanted.
Why's Bob 'looking at some houses before the show' in a crappy neighborhood?

Probably looking for one of two things: pot or inspiration (which might also have been pot).

Dylan was being Dylan. No fuss, no muss.

Once, during preparation of his tax returns, Dylan's accountant was taken aback by his sizeable income. More than slightly frustrated, the CPA vented about how he had been a straight-A student throughout his school years and then toiled for years as an accountant working long, hard hours, and, only making just a tiny fraction of Dylan's income.

Dylan's response to his accountant: "Learn the guitar"

"The guitar's all very well, John, but you'll never make a living at it" (said to John by his Aunt Mimi).

What gets me is why was he even stopped in the first place? Why did someone call the police on him for simply walking down the street? Is it a crime now to walk down the street looking at houses?

Guess you haven't seen Bob Dylan, lately.

I'm so glad he wasn't wearing a trenchcoat... peeping Bob...

I think Bob can find private places to smoke and has instant access to better pot than he could get in some crappy Jersey hood. Bob need never travel outside his personal world...
