Hi All,
I've come across what seems to be an interesting World War II forum but I want to check with you guys to make sure it is legitimate.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WorldWar2_Revisited/
They claim to look at World War II perfectly objectively rather than as an event whitewashed by the victors. This does sound interesting but I want to make sure I'm not getting into a "revisionistic" site!
Thanks,
Bob

I don't know about the group, but given the rhetoric on the front page, I would have some misgivings. This phrase alone gives me some shudders, "We know what the liberal establishment historians taught us in public school about US involvement in the wars we fought during the 20th century, but did they teach us the history of what actually happened or merely a whitewashed history of the victors?" [emphasis added]
Those two phrases smack of conspiracy theory, rather than an open, honest dialogue of research and discussion.

I would have to say that WWII is a war that old adage does not apply to. The Germans, Japanese and the Italians were not subjugated, never mind annihilated after the war and they have all had scholars examining and publishing about WW2 for as long as the "victors" have. It is the most discussed, researched and documented war, from all sides.
Of course I am sure that at the more populist levels the USA will tend to highlight their best bits and gloss over their worse, just like everyone else but if you are willing to put even a small amount of effort into serious research there is a wealth of objective and factually based work to delve into.

Extremely suspicious, IMO. You are going to get a lot of loony stuff there.

I am a WW2 buff, and the Yahoo WW2 revisited site mentioned above does not have a good reputation.

Was the US alliance with mass murdering Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin really necessary or could we have achieved victory over Nazi Germany without an unholy alliance with the Evil Soviet Empire? Was the Yalta agreement which consigned 140 million Europeans to Communist enslavement an act of necessity or does it represent the greatest act of rank appeasement of totalitarian mass murderers in human history? Was the Soviet Union really a peace-loving victim of Nazi aggression or was it in fact a co-aggressor with the Nazis that incited and started World War II in an attempt to so exhaust and weaken its enemies so as to enable the Sovietization of most of continental Europe? Were FDR, Truman, Churchill, and Eisenhower really war heroes or were they perhaps war criminals?
You can sort of see which axe they have to grind if you squint...

I wonder what you mean with the above statement. Does this include, that the "general public"
1. receives and
2. understands and
3. remembers
all the relevant information in order to construe an unbiased picture?
Note: I do not mention balanced view; teaching/spreading history does not need to be balanced but unbiased.

Yea! I agree!
It does seem like an invitation for "whatever".
