I was reading this thread (http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?t=75480) on Rapture Ready, and I am confused as to whether this is said jokingly or seriously. A few of them - the extra-drippy ice cream, fifteen-year-old in a chat room, and big universe ones spring to mind - seem to be said jokingly, but the rest have an undercurrent of extreme anger. And they're false.
Is this thread supposed to be funny or a serious condemnation of atheism?

Oooh how clever! So much so that they don't trust their fellow fundies to get the joke! Nice find PA :)

So typical of their view of why atheists don't go for gods. All wrong. I got bored half way through...did any of them actually say, "no evidence"?

It is just a cut and paste. But I would think that the OP is thoroughly convinced of what is being CPed.

Gosh, someone had an excess of time on their hands. I nodded off twice and was convinced to accept Jesus as my personal savior at least 15 times. That's a LOT of sludge on there, I can't imagine even hard fundies being able to get through it all.

Wait. You think there's something fundies aren't willing to do in the name of their religion?
WAHAHAHAHA!
Oh, that's rich, man. That's really good.

Actually, I think a lot of fundamentalists have things they won't do in the name of their religion. I would, however, imagine that the majority of them would devise an excuse of some kind rather than admit to this.

Yeah, you're probably right. But it's not funny if I say it that way.

It started out mildly amusing and then really, REALLY began to fall apart into paranoia and humorlessness in the "Origins" section. But, ooh! John Shelby Spong was mentioned derisively. Snerky snerk.

The link in the other forum does not work. It also has parody in the URL.
Edit. Yes this is a parody. Any relationship between the facts and what is says is funny.
Edit2. Looks like I am not the only one that can see parody Ref http://www.topix.com/forum/dallas/TV489JFBQ45HVUDKH
Edit3. I think in the other forum they are taking it seriously, but it is not. The list is in several places on the internet.

The "You may be a religious fundamentalist if..." list was well-written and fairly true. This...
...ugh.
To do the top ones:
# You became an atheist when you were 10 years old, based on ideas of God that you learned in Sunday School. Your ideas about God haven't changed since.Oh yeah, the classic "tell me about the god you don't believe in, and I'll tell you about the one I believe in" ploy.
# You think that the primary aim of an omnibenevolent God is for people to have FUN.[and] # You believe that extra drippy ice-cream is a logical proof against the existence of God, because an omniscient God would know how to stop the ice-cream from being extra drippy, an omnipotent God would have the ability to stop the ice-cream from being extra drippy, and by golly, an omnibenevolent God wouldn't want your ice-cream to be extra drippy.Because if one dislikes having his pelvis crushed, wife killed, and home ruined in a landslide, then naturally he also frets about dripping ice cream. Geez, it was just one little landslide, atheists are such whiners:rolleyes:!
# Although you've memorized a half a dozen proofs that He doesn't exist, you still think you're God's gift to the ignorant masses.Way to misunderstand the burden of proof and make a messed up strawman at the same time.
# You believe the astronomical size of the universe somehow disproves God, as if God needed a tiny universe in order to exist.OK, now I'm just lost. Someone clue me in as to what this strawman is based on.
# You think questions like, "Can God create a rock so big that He cannot lift it?" and, "Can God will Himself out of existence?" are perfect examples of how to disprove God's omnipotence and ultimately how to disprove God. When someone proves to you the false logic behind the questions (i.e. pitting God's omnipotence against itself), you desperately try to defend the questions, but then give up and go to a different Christian site to ask them. No, as a matter of fact this reminds me more of the behaviour of DOC and his ilk.
# Related to the above, you spend a great deal of your spare time writing to Christian websites asking them these very questions.Raise your hand if you've spent a great deal of time trolling Christian web sites, telling everyone that God cannot create a rock so heavy he can't lift it... as I thought.
# You declare on a public forum that you are "furious at God for not existing."Cue stunned silence.
# You spend hours arguing that a-theism actually means "without a belief in God " and not just " belief that there is no god" as if this is a meaningful distinction in real life.If it's not a meaningful distinction, why do so many people keep attacking atheists for "believing there is no god", as opposed to lacking a belief in god?
# You consistently deny the existence of God because you personally have never seen him but you reject out of hand personal testimony from theists who claim to have experienced God as a reality in their lives. There are witness testimonies of encounters with everything from gods to ghosts to aliens to a reincarnated Elvis. I fail to see why I should give one particular Jewish deity any more credence than the other alleged phenomenon reported throughout the years.
# You can make the existence of pink unicorns the center-piece of a philosophical critique. So analogies are a sign of fundamentalism. Got'cha.
# You insist that "the burden of proof is on he that alleges/accuses", and "it's impossible to prove a negative", then state "That's what Christians do. They lie. Their most common lie is that they were once atheists." When reminded about the burden of proof bit, you reply with, "Well, prove Christians don't lie!"Wow, a point that almost has a certain truth to it.
But yes, fundamentalists often do use the "I used to be an atheist" ploy, often mischaracterizing atheism so badly it's obvious they're lying - just as if I was to say that "I used to be a Christian, and found that priesthood was all about raping altar boys".
# You adamantly believe that the "God of the gaps" idea is an essential tenet of orthodox Christian faith espoused by all the great Christian thinkers throughout history.First part, yes, second part, no.

...My entire worldview was just destroyed. You're seriously making me consider becoming a theist just to avoid association with him.
