Wouldn't this story in USA Today prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that the Bible is NOT the inerrant word of God?

not really, the bible had been rewritten numerous times before the KJV version came out in the 13th century which was itself a rewrite, so if people still believe its the word of God, its simply a clinical psychotic reation to an external stimulus
;)

No, it just proves that it's written in languages that very few people speak today, and the way to sell more bibles is to provide new translations that appeal to various niche markets.

"And we'll make sure we get it right this time," says Keith Danby

Are they admitting it's been wrong all this time?

No. They are just admitting that the previous localization efforts were flawed.

Read Isaiah 45:6-7
That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!

One of the things I've heard lately from sundry preacher-types is that there actually is an inerrant bible...We just don't have it.
It's been corrupted by man.

How this information is supposed to inform anyone is beyond me. Perhaps the 700 club will fund an Indiana Jones-style hunt for the real one.

Maybe they're thinking of the Quran. Muslims also believe the Bible has been corrupted by man, but they've avoided that problem in the Quran by memorizing the original Arabic version of their holy book.

When someone tells you that, reply to them that an inerrant one already exists: the Quran. That should ruffle their feathers a bit (always does for me).

Actually the real history of the Koran shows that it is not a true copy of an original document.

What part of "The Bible was written by human beings" do people not understand?

I know what your point is. However, it will not work as a way of silencing a Christian, if they have any knowledge of religion outside of the one they have been indoctrinated in. However unlikely that might be. :covereyes

Gee that isn't what the believers in the Koran say. Infact, they often also say the same thing about the bible.

Still missing it.

The point is that most Christians you come across who are into the fundie-ness enough to believe that their bible is inerrant will often blow a gasket or go into attack mode at the mere mention that another religion-- let alone the big-boogey-man of Islam-- is brought up as also being inerrant.

Ah! Light dawneth. I just had severe trouble twisting my mind around to get your original point. :(

No they don't. That's because their heads have been filled with nonsense and don't know the history of their "Holy Book".

Is it this one? http://www.lolcatbible.com/index.php?title=Main_PageI like this one, actually: http://www.theaussiebible.com.au/

When Libby was six months gone, God sent the same angel'this Gabriel bloke'to a backblocks town called Nazareth, in the Galilee shire, to a nice young girl who was engaged to the local carpenter, Joe Davidson. Her name was Mary. The angel said to her, 'G'day Mary. You are a pretty special sheila. God has his eye on you.'

Mary went weak at the knees, and wondered what was going on.

But the angel said to her, 'Don't panic, don't chuck a wobbly. God thinks you're okay. You're about to become pregnant, and you'll have a son, and you're to call him Jesus. He will be a very big wheel, and will be called the Son of God Most High. God will give him the throne of his father, your ancestor, King David, and he will be in charge of the whole show forever.'

'But how'? said Mary. 'Joe and I have done the right thing, we've never' well, you know. I mean to say, I'm still a virgin.'

The angel answered, 'Leave the mechanics up to God. This is heavenly stuff. God's Spirit will come upon you, and the Big Brain behind the Big Bang will manipulate the necessary molecules to make it happen. So this little kid of yours will be as special as it's possible to be, and he'll be called God's own Son. Look, even Libby, your old cousin, is preggers'at her age! God can do these things. In fact, Libby is in her sixth month because nothing is impossible with God.'

'God's in charge,' Mary answered. 'If that's what God wants, then it's what I want to.'

Then the angel nicked off and left her alone.
