"A healthcare-reform opponent whose finger was partially bitten off Wednesday during a Thousand Oaks rally said today that doctors could not re-attach the severed section.
William Rice, 65, of Newbury Park also confirmed reports that he threw the first punch in the confrontation that claimed part of his left pinky.
“When he got in my personal space, I popped him in the nose,” Rice said. “I felt like I had no choice other than to defend myself.”

DISCLAIMER: I am against violence...

What it seems like to me was Rice was looking for trouble when he stopped to argue with Code Pink. According to him he was making sure they weren't protesting the war, which appears to me like he wanted to shut someone up. Now the finger bitter isn't in the right for following Rice across the street, but yelling at Rice that he is an idiot (a true statement in my opinion) at a distance of 3 feet doesn't warrant a punch from Rice without any warning.

Honestly I think Rice got p**** that a damn hippie called him an idiot and he was going to put him in his place. I think he doesn't like when people protest the war, and that is why he stopped and he was hanging around looking for an excuse to put a liberal in their place. I just think that he bit off more than he could chew.

Again I am against violence and this is unfortunate, but I don't feel sorry for Rice. That and the old (rule 10) is probably on Medicare.

Well, as he said:

"“If I had any other options, I would not have used it, even though I pay for it,” he said."

And the lightbulb still didn't go off.

"Rice acknowledged he used the Medicare he gets as a senior when he went to the hospital Wednesday. He said it was the first time he used the program, to which he remains adamantly opposed."

Hilarious! Just how adamantly opposed is he?

The kind of adamant that means you can yell really loud but your actions don't jive with what you're saying.

Sorry, but I'm not buying that. You just don't walk into a hospital, they decide that you are over 65 and put a Medicare sticker on your head. You have to enroll in Medicare, it's not automatic.

This guy is a fool...and a liar.

No, that was the other guy. :)

But in general, when you go looking for trouble, you shouldn't complain when you find it.

Being English, I did not know that about Medicare. So, it seems he had already enrolled in a health care system he is "adamantly opposed" to, in the expectation that he would never use it.

The Now Show (on BBC radio4) asked people around the world to email in what was considered news where they lived.

One email from California contained the following:

"Where I live a lot of people on medicare are campaigning against socialistic helathcare, not realising that medicare is such a socialistic system, proving that it might provide good care but is no cure for senility"

I see rightwingnuts are screaming that the biter should be arrested. For what? He was assaulted. Do you have to stop and file a police report every time you punch out a drunk who attacks you, if you do not want to have him arrested? Rice should sit down, shut up and stop snivelling. He was the aggressor when he accosted the demonstrators. If anyone was provoked beyond what they should tolerate, it was when the old freak started harrassing peaceful demonstrators. Maybe the guy just figured that he needed to show the freaks that they were losing their ability to intimidate liberals.

I think the lefty felt like I did the time I confronted the two agitators at the Biden rally in Tacoma. Got right in their faces and made them look and feel like fools and gave everybody a good laugh. I highly recommend that the Tea Baggers be confronted like that when they try to disrupt other people's events. There is no reason to be nice to them any more. They crossed the line when creeps like "Chris" from Phoenix and William Kostric started wriggling out from under the compost heap.

Best to put them in their place before they start feeling as invincible as the SA. Hopefully, it will not take another bloodletting to convince these nutbars that they have pushed as far as the left will yield.

Sympathy is wasted on fools like Rice.

Probably the same level of opposed as the anti-choice people who don't consider it immoral or wrong when they have abortions.

What an absolute tool. Any other options...hmmm...let me think. Well, he could have drained his savings, sold his house, sold his car, declared bankruptcy and lived the rest of his life in poverty. That was an option, he's just too much of a chickenhawk to have the courage of his supposed convictions.

Of course, he doesn't seem to realize that IS the option he supposedly is in favor of: poverty and sickness if you can't afford health care. I really wonder what goes in in the head of people like this, because its beyond me.
