... and they lose. Apparently they had argued in court that the policy somehow infringed upon their religious freedom.

Christian parents who objected to their children being taught about other religions in a mandatory new Quebec school course have suffered a serious setback with a ruling this week that the teachings do not infringe their religious freedoms.Well no kidding! That's kind of a no-brainer, isn't it? Teaching about all religions obviously doesn't infringe upon religious freedom, it enhances it. I guess their idea of religious freedom is freedom to take away their children's religious freedom. The course was controversial even before instruction began last September. During the year there were protest marches in some cities, and about 1,700 parents asked that their children be exempted from attending the class. All such requests were refused. It sure would be fun to watch that same battle take place in the good old USA, especially in Texas. Obvious hypocrisy is one of my favorite forms of entertainment.

Given that Canada is a Christian nation (at least in foundation), I think this is great news.

Not because they shut the Christians down, but because they upheld freedom.

As a theist equally agree with you. In my mind one of the biggest blights on this planet is ignorance, anything that can help lift the veil on other cultures mindsets, faith has to be a positive

My four daughters in Australia attended a Catholic school, and all were subject to comparative religious studies, and are better human beings for it

My daughter too, over my initial atheist misgivings. I'm glad I did as I was told for a change.

Me too, especially in some of the suburban school districs like Plano or The Woodlands.

Catholic schools in Belgium already offer similar religious education. When I was in highschool we basically learned about the tenets of each religion (Islam's 5 pillars, etc) and their origins - which is actually still useful today.

All I remember from my religious education at school is that I accidentally shot my R.E. Teachers car with a bow and arrow. Got an entire term of detentions for that one and it was an *accident*!!
