View Full Version : I don't believe this Advert

personally I think this is a huge faux pas, rather than making the point that Aids is a mass murderer I think it equally well suggests that anyone with aids is akin to the individual featured in the advert

Some of you may be surprised when they realise which country came up with this

There's an ad campaign going around in my town that I find equally unfortunate.
The slogan is "AIDS doesn't kill people, ignorance does" and in smaller font "get tested"
Umm, yes, AIDS very *********** well does kill people whether they're ignorant or not, thank you very much.

Well, I suppose it's how you look at it. If taken merely as a precautionary ad not to engage in unprotected sex....No problem.
I suppose you could take issue with the apparent attempt to personify "AIDS", with the implication that the fellow is fully aware of what he's doing as disturbing, but such individuals are apparently rare in Western society.
Maybe just going for the shock value....

Yeah, by stigmatizing people with AIDS they actually discourage testing and honesty.

Why would a German public information film have English text?

It appears there is a German version of the ad and the website: http://aids-ist-ein-massenmoerder.de/typo3/index.php?id=welt_aids_tag_kampagne0&L=0

Why would a German public information film have English text?
It was created by a german Ad firm for a global market
The Hamburg-based Das Comitee advertising agency, which made the film, said it was designed to shock people into avoiding sex without contraception.
"We asked ourselves what face we could give to the virus, and it couldn't be a pretty face," Dirk Silz, creative director of Das Comitee, told AFP news agency.
"The campaign is designed to shake people up, to bring the topic of Aids back to centre stage, and to reverse the trend of unprotected sexual intercourse."

I think its backfired, its not aimed at people with Aids, I'm sure they already know its a killer, its aimed at people who might get it in the future or those who might have it who haven't been checked yet.
so now they have linked it with Hitler, how motivating is that going to be to people who are in high risk groups who need to be tested for the virus.

That's a really weird video. The OP link just leads to a menu of videos but Darat's link has the original. Click on 'Kampagne' in the upper left of the screen to play it.
It seems as much like a devil as Hitler the way they have his smiling evil grin. I think instead of thinking like HIV-AIDS as the culprit, you get the impression the guy is knowingly and purposefully infecting the 'innocent' girl. I can't believe that message was well vetted.... unless the producers were going for the publicity of a controversial ad.

Must have been seriously gross. YouTube TOSed it.

Could have been removed for copyright violation... or something.
Either way, is there another site we can see the English version?

Strictly speaking, AIDS doesn't kill, it severely weakens your immune system, opening the door for infections that do.
Whatever the rights or wrongs of the advert, I'm surprised they got it taken down from YouTube for copyright violation. You'd think they'd welcome its propagation by any means possible (I hesitate to use the term 'viral' here).

There's nothing really "gross" about it. It's still on youtube multiple times but it gets TOS'd fast.

If nobody had told me it was hitler, it would have been a generic guy with black hair to me. I mean, why should i think this is hitler since the context is modern ? Hitler died in 1945.
FAIL.

yeah, but having it on Youtube would allow for negative comments, which you wouldn't have just showing the ad on TV.

Wait a minute....They guy was supposed to be Hitler? I didn't catch that at all. Of course the YouTube version I watched was extremely dark; I could hardly tell what was going on.

I heard they have two more of these, one with Saddam and one with Stalin. It's just a bad, bad idea that shows the shallow thinking and lack of creativity from those involved in the campaign.

well because it clearly links the character to mass murder, unless you know other mass murderers who look exactly like Hitler and who are still alive and partying and doing aids awareness adverts,
still I think its a bit unfair to accuse a man of a crime when he hasn't been convicted of one

Thanks for that.
I suppose for many people that style of moustache will always be associated with Hitler.
I don't see why they wouldn't make advertisements that can be shown in prime-time in most countries.
Just to be pedantic, shouldn't the campaign be "HIV is a mass murderer"? After all AIDS is the result of the disease, not the disease itself.

I'm sorry, did this ad contain something else than a mostly naked chick with big tits? Because I couldn't pay attention to anything else...

Wait a minute....They guy was supposed to be Hitler? ....Remember, this was to be shown in Germany and the text was, "AIDS is a mass murderer". I don't think many people in the target audience are going to miss who the guy is supposed to be.

At this site (http://www.aids-is-a-mass-murderer.com/) you find it under the campaign link.
At the bottom are posters with the Stalin and Saddam figures.
Neither look remotely like them, and the Hitler poster is pretty awful too. At least in the video you can guess who the copulator is, but I couldn't help thinking it looked a bit like David Brent/Ricky Gervais with only a moustache.
