In Sedalia Missouri, the school band had an idea to make up a T-shirt as a money-making project:

The shirt used the familiar graphic of "monkey-to-human" but with each figure holding a band instrument. The shirt says, "the evolution of music".

Clever, no?

Not to the school administration, which recalled the entire run of shirts.

“I was disappointed with the image on the shirt.” Melby said. “I don’t think evolution should be associated with our school.”
Evidently, it has not reached the administration....

This topic has already been covered but it bears repeating: stupid is as stupid does and Missouri does stupid like no other.

"Whatever happened to the separation of church and state?"

EVOLUTION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RELIGION. A religious t-shirt would have been one depicting God handing Adam and Eve a clarinet or a tuba or something.

Ahem. You forget our neighbor to the West, Kansas. Yeah. This is just one school. Kansas had the State Board of Education going for them. Game, set, match.

Another line for the "You can't make this stuff up" file.

wow that was close. thankfully the shirt was recalled. the band director might have shattered the religious folks feel-good fairytale. everyone, keep quiet about santa too. have you ever seen a religious person question their faith? its not pretty -- almost reasonable

I love America, it's a free and stimulating country, but as far as religion is concerned, it looks more like Saudi Arabia sometimes.

They really need to have a come to Jesus meeting about evolution. Wait, that didn't sound right...

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in groups.
