View Full Version : Truthers, Skeptics, and personality types

I've often wondered what role someone's personality type might play into their propensity to believe 9/11 conspiracy theories (or any conspiracy theory, for that matter).

I know we've got a wide gamut of truthers, ex-truthers, skeptics, and just plain crazies here and I'd love for everyone, regardless of belief, to post their personality types.

I have never been a truther, and never will be, and I'm a INTP.

If you don't know your type, you can take a free online test at the following URL:

I'm skeptical of Myers-Briggs to begin with, but they made us take it at work about 15 years ago.

IIRC, I was an INTJ.

Let's just say I find a biologist's looking for the evolutionary ancestors of unicorns to be more fruitful than the Myers-Briggs personality test. Any "personality" test is on par with astrology.

I agree. I did one of these tests through work a few years ago. I forget what type I actually came up with, but in reading the descriptions of the various "types", at least half were things that I felt would adequately describe me, and several were better than the "real" result.*

STFU/OMFG cross, with a slight tinge of FUBAR.

Or, you know, what he said.

*And this doesn't even get into the fact that the test (at least, as I did it) was basically an exercise in false dichotomies.

INTJ: The outside contractor
INTJs are solid, competent personalities who may seem aloof and even arrogant, but who are typically highly skilled in any field which interests them. INTJs are confident in their skills and knowledge, self-assured, and imaginitive; their exceptional problem-solving skills make them ideal architects, auto mechanics, and tools of the evil empire. While it requires the driving will to conquer of an ENTJ to imagine the Death Star and the evil genius of an ENTP to invent its devastating weapons systems, the skill and technical prowess of the INTJ is what makes the whole thing work.

How about aircraft mechanics? ;)

INTJ, I think - I took it years ago.

I seem to remember thinking that someone who was familiar with Meyers-Brigs could easily manipulate their results towards a type of their choosing by picking their answers carefully.

ENTJ (Extraversion, iNtuition, Thinking, Judgment)!

You are frank, decisive, and assume leadership readily. You quickly see illogical and inefficient procedures and policies, and develop and implement comprehensive systems to solve organizational problems. You enjoy long-term planning and goal setting. You are usually well informed, well read, enjoy expanding your knowledge and passing it on to others. You are forceful in presenting your ideas. Famous people with your same ENTJ personality include: Franklin D. Roosevelt , Harrison Ford, Steve Martin, Whoopi Goldberg, Sigourney Weaver, Margaret Thatcher, Al Gore, David Letterman and Jim Carrey.

ENTJ a Fieldmarshal! ;)

ENTJs are decisive. They see what needs to be done, and frequently assign roles to their fellows. Few other types can equal their ability to remain resolute in conflict, sending the valiant (and often leading the charge) into the mouth of hell. When challenged, the ENTJ may by reflex become argumentative. Alternatively (s)he may unleash an icy gaze that serves notice: the ENTJ is not one to be trifled with.

While I was never a truther, I did question one certain aspect of 9/11; I was fairly sure UAL 93 was shot down. Seemed logical, last one to crash, military must have got them. That all changed when I researched it of course. That's what led me here btw.

The questionnaire assumes honesty on the part of the person taking it.

For example at question 58, "You consider the scientific approach to be the best" you can't possibly have answered 'yes' and be a truther.

I disagree. It depends on what they consider science to be. Many truthers think Steven Jones has taken a scientific approach and by parroting him, they think they are too. So it is possible to be a truther and answer it honestly.

INTJ's typically make up 1-5% of the population....compared with over 35% of respondants to this poll.

Over 50% of respondants here are -NT-, which fall into one of four tempraments that David Keirsey calls "Rationals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rational_temperament)"

As Childlike Empress points out, this doesn't necessarily reflect the tempraments of all skeptics or truthers, but could also reflect the type of temprament that is likely to be found in someone posting on this type of message board.

I'd still be interested to see more results from truthers to see how they compare to the audience here. Anyone have an active LCF account? (My guess is they wouldn't participate)

The Myers-Briggs type indicator was first created in 1942. Joan of Arc died in 1431. When exactly are they proposing she took a personality test?

I think some of these sites try to rate people based on their perception of their behavior. This isn't technically the correct way to take the test but I can say that my friends, when reading the various descriptions of the personality types can easily pick out the one that applies to me.
