View Full Version : [Merged] New poll shows truther numbers have nearly halved in two years

This is from a new poll (http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_National_9231210.pdf) by Public Policy Polling (http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pppmain.asp?@spdT=B6B42829136845A69B19),

Q4 Do you think President Bush intentionally
allowed the 9/11 attacks to take place because
he wanted the United States to go to war in the
Middle East? If yes, press 1. If no, press 2. If
you’re not sure, press 3.
Yes .................................................. ............... 14%
No .................................................. ................. 78%
Not Sure.............................................. ............ 8%

--

Compare that with a similar question from a July 2007 Zogby poll (http://www.911truth.org/images/ZogbyPoll2007.pdf):

402. There are three main schools of thought regarding the 9/11 attacks. The first theory is the official story, and maintains that 19 Arab fundamentalists executed a surprise attack which caught US intelligence and military forces off guard. The second theory known as Let It Happen argues that certain elements in the US government knew the attacks were coming but consciously let them proceed for various political, military and economic motives; and the third theory Made It Happen contends that certain US government elements actively planned or assisted some aspects of the attacks. Based upon your knowledge of 9/11 events and their aftermath, which theory are you more likely to agree with?

Bah. You think truthers are stupid enough to fall for an obvious NWO ploy to get the last remaining truthers to reveal their IP addresses and subsequently be rounded up for "re-education" at your friendly neighborhood FEMA death camp? Not bloody likely. They're happy to let you think the truth movement is dead pining resting while they regroup and attack anew.

So there.

Seriously, the new poll is also interesting in that it also proves South Park's quote "25% of Americans are retarded" is true :D:

Q3 Do you think Barack Obama was born in the
United States? If yes, press 1. If no, press 2. If
you’re not sure, press 3.
Yes .................................................. ............... 59%
No .................................................. ................. 23%
Not Sure.............................................. ............ 18%

This national poll (http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_National_9231210.pdf) conducted earlier this week shows that only 14% believe Bush allowed the attacks to take place in order to go to war in the Middle East.

Compare this with the 23% who are birthers and the 14-18% that believe either Bush or Obama is the Antichrist.

Of course, 911blogger.com interprets this as being a good thing.

Of all the different polling methods out there, telephone polls strike me as the most useless.

But even so, it says 14% LIHOP which I'm guessing includes MIHOPers as well.

So much for Alex Jones' 86% and "you debunkers are in the minority now!"

Seems to be the industry norm, isn't it?

eta: oh, I see this was an automated phone poll where people pressed buttons rather than answering verbally. Not a real good method IMHO.

19% think Bush is or could be the ‘antichrist’.
So the people responding clearly have litte grasp of reality. I suspect that the 14% came from this lot.

The demographics for this survey look pretty good, but 15% claim they voted for someone else during the last election or would not say. A further 25% say they are neither Republican nor Democrat. I am not familiar with US patterns but this seems quite large to me. It's possible this sample is slightly conservative. It's also possible that some people did not understand the question properly.

It's difficult to tell anything from a single survey. Election campaigns and polls of government policies are concerned with patterns.

Whoops, I see that orphia nay already pointed this out yesterday in a different thread.

Could a mod merge the two?

This is LIHOP and MIHOP, I think if it was broken down, you would see the same numbers as the truther poll that showed 4.6 per cent believed in MIHOP. The peak was 2006, when a similar poll had MIHOP and LIHOP at 36 per cent.

17% of respondents are 18-29. Some of these would have been children on 911. It's possible that there's confusion about the question or other problems related to their youth.

1) I talked to a guy from Ekos who was saying telephone polling is actually fairly reliable these days.

2) lol @ antichrist stats.

What's the % that believe in ghosts? I remember reading it was pretty high at one point.

Also, LIHOP/MIOHP=?

Well 25% of Americans are mentally retarded.

What about the other 26% in the 2004 election? :p
Anyway, American culture as a whole is pretty diverse concerning Government-related issues, UFO's, Vaccines, Science&Religion, etc. So the 14% strikes me as rather surprisingly low.

I don't know what any of this really matters but for one thing the same questions aren't even being asked in the two comparisons you present. The new poll gives a LIHOP option only with no MIHOP option. Anyway if you conducted these polls everyday with different random groups of people the results would vary drastically in my opinion. What do any of these people know anyway? If anyone knew for sure then no one would be asking for an opinion poll in the first place.

I don't know what any of this really matters but for one thing the same questions aren't even being asked in the two comparisons you present. The new poll gives a LIHOP option only with no MIHOP option.

But it shows that 14% believe LIHOP as opposed to 26% in 2007.

Anyway if you conducted these polls everyday with different random groups of people the results would vary drastically in my opinion.

Do you think that more, or less people would believe LIHOP/MIHOP?

What do any of these people know anyway? If anyone knew for sure then no one would be asking for an opinion poll in the first place.

Er, you missed seeing how the poll was researching the demographics of believers in conspiracy theories in general, given the questions about Obama being a US citizen, and Obama or Bush being the Anti-Christ. Or do you give weight to those theories too?

Then it wouldn't be a scientific poll. Do you know how a scientific poll is conducted? They are taken from a cross section of the population with usually a + or - 4 percent accuracy.

The new poll gives a LIHOP option only with no MIHOP option.

Since even total nutters don't believe W personally placed half a kiloton of explosives in the WTC, MIHOP more or less encompasses him deliberately allowing the attacks he had planned to happen.

What it comes down to is that no one puts any stock in polls unless the poll results back that person's particular, well established, POV.

Of course there is the quote from, IIRC , Mark Twain, that there are three types of lies, "...lies, damn lies, and statistics".

Of course it is. We all know that it was orchestrated by a secret organization that controls the events occuring around the globe, in which GWB is but a minor player. He probably knows the lower level secret handshakes though.

Of course there is the quote from, IIRC , Mark Twain, that there are three types of lies, "...lies, damn lies, and statistics".

Despite of what Twain said, polls can be extremely accurate, thanks to the Central Limit Theorem. fivethirtyeight.com predicted the WV democratic primaries to within .01% of the results.

Anyway if you conducted these polls everyday with different random groups of people the results would vary drastically in my opinion.

This would be a stundie in a statistics course.
